Re: Ash's Adub
So I've solved the issue of the water pipe hitting the knock sensor, simply went around it
Used pieces from both ZE and blue top water pipes with lots of gasket goop
Light weight panels for mirror mounts are coming along nicely, loads lighter then the factory ones!
Used some Kevlar on the mount nuts, proved hard to work with when trying to grind it back it was only scuffed, I can can see why this stuff stops bullets!! Will stick to glass as it's easy to cut back
Picked up gel coats, cat activated primer, and some other suff to start making molds.
Will try my hand at carbon C pillar trims
And start on making full fibre glass bonnet and boot
Underside bonnet strengthening is done already
Bonnet first, been using blue and yellow spray putty as it makes it easy to see imperfections and where to build up more
Nearly done today, will then use a catalyst activated primer to provide a good surface and chemically good bond surface for the cat activated gel coat.
Will give it a light gel coat and sand back to give it a mirror finish
Will make one out of fibre glass as a practice then see how it goes and maybe make a carbon one
I'm not sure people under stand the amount of work that goes into these sorts of things, time, effort and materials, it'll be a $4000 bonnet by the time it's done haha

Re: Ash's Adub
Debating on weather to do infusion or not when using the molds, it's far better in terms of end result but I would need a pump. Bags, mesh and film are easy to get but pumps are expensive. It all adds up

Probably depends whether you plan on doing one-offs for yourself, or making for others as well to recover costs or turn into a side or main job?Ash Kelly Barr wrote:Debating on weather to do infusion or not when using the molds, it's far better in terms of end result but I would need a pump. Keep in mind, pump and other tools extends your ability to make stuff outside of AW11 parts much easier, or outside automotive stuff altogether.
*EDIT* sweet update by the way, lot of cool progress here

Not sure I will invest as I don't see my self using it all the time, time a patience is the nature of this kind of work at witch I would find anoyying as a day job. As good as it is to practice it

Re: Ash's Adub
Nice work! I have a mould for aw11 bonnet here, I made one but used the stock re-inforcing, ended up being ~10kg, stock is ~15 I think. THe glass re-inforcing is the way to go though, can't wait to see how it turns out
Whats the plan for the mirrors? might have missed something in older posts

Re: Ash's Adub
Cheers! Yeah ideally I'd use carbon and vacume mold it to get it seriously light, but funds and experience isn't quite tr yet (note, yet being the key word )
I'm gonna make the whole thing using light weight tight weave mat to try make it is strong as possible with out adding loads to it, maybe I little chop strand at mounting point but that's it

Ah sorry man, motocycle or single seater mirrors are going on the glass mounts. You can get carbon ones for not to much from race shops in the states. Prices over here and in Aus are a little bit more. Want some real nice ones with cnc'd alloy fittingskrupkee wrote:Whats the plan for the mirrors? might have missed something in older posts

Haha yeah given up on the supercharger idea. Turbos are just far to efficientSinturion wrote:Turbo time
Ball bearing, billit alloy compressor wheel and a small AR to get it kicking early seems just as good
Barry said a gt2876 will spool up quick and still be good for 280kw but I should go to a 3071.. But that's for another post in distantish (but not to distant I hope) future along with a revised motor plan

280kw from a 1.6 is already alot of power. Heck, that's more than most SW20's put out .

Yeah turbos are the way to go for high boost . It's very apparent when you take a look at the compressor maps.

Just in general loss's vs gains vs costSinturion wrote:Yeah turbos are the way to go for high boost . It's very apparent when you take a look at the compressor maps.
Just gotta get sizing and housing design options right so I can get it kicking in at a low rpm so it's still driver friendly as and not just an NA until 6k

Re: Ash's Adub
So to spill the beans
Running motor has been purchased, made 223kw at STM
How ever it is getting on since it was built and there where a couple little things I wasn't happy with so its been pulled to bits
Ran 220kw with
Small port 16v head
8:1 81mm
Huge port on intake only (bit ruff)
Standard valves
Small port 232 cams
TD05HR
1763cc
Standard intake and throttle
New is
Small port 16v head
8.9:1 Pistons
Possible metal head gasket making total 9.4-9.5:1
Port and polish on intake
Port and polish on ex taking the ex port out to 31.5mm and removed cast marks
Standard valves
267 cams
TD06H or GTX2861R with Evo turbine housing
1784cc
Ported and modified intake with 7MGTE throttle
Slight increase in displacement, higher comp, bigger cams and good port flow should get it above 250kw easy but get the power in sooner too
Heads ready for new valve springs then cams this weekend and it's good to go.
Pauter rods came in the engine so will be using those with the over size Pistons I got earlier in the year.
Bore, hone, balance and its good to go back together.
Will be going back together with 4ag oil pump and Barry mannons recut crank gear and timing belt as the porshe belt had quite a bit of slack on the ex side
Have a link G3 with the 220kw tune on it
Looms pretty average, have a feeling ones messed with it a bit since it was first put together so will re-do with new plugs where I can
Also have two peice SSR's on their way from Japan at the moment
8.5" wide on the rear with 235 tires will mean a lot of hacking in the rear guards
Will post photos tomorrow when I have some free time
