THE PRUDE - is up for sale now :(

Post by MR2Pearl »

I nicknamed my red SW the "Prude" based on the fact that by the time I have finished with it, she'll suit the name.

definition of prude: One who is excessively concerned with being or appearing to be proper, modest, or righteous.

As I intend to paint her and keep her as shiny as humanly possible (possibly never up to Brae's standards, but he's kinda superhuman when it comes to shininess), she will suit the name when she gets there.

She's already got the beginnings of looking good. New leather gaiters, new "aftermarket" steering wheel, replacement leather seats (courtesy of Reuban), a polish and shine by yours truly (not Brae) 8) and an awesome vacuum with my shark = almost perfect carpet.

She's had her rear rotors replace and the rear sway bar. I have a replacement side mirror to install and Daddy dearest is going to weld in a new flexipipe. I do need someone to help me to install the front sway bar and bushes and someone with tools to assist with installing the spots please. I can get bolts if someone can tell me exactly what I need to get, because bolts and most actual mechanical crap is beyond me.

Somewhere along the line I need to replace the wheels for something stylish too, as one centre cap is missing clips so is non-existent. That just looks ugly.

The paint job is in the long-term plans, I do believe I've mentioned the pink before. Don't freak out! It's going to be a magenta pink not a hot pink or baby pink or anything like that. I'm think pink pearl on red, broken up with some black :)

But I have more detailing I can do in the meantime... such as inside the doors, sills, the vinyl around the dashboard and the engine cover needs a damn good clean on the inside. I'm a little bit too nervous to clean the engine bay itself though. I do believe Brae will have to help me out with that one.

She sprung a leak last night... Radiator

So I guess for now it's a matter of getting that sorted before I can even think of driving her anywhere now.

radiator was removed by mechanic yesterday, today it's sitting at the radiator specialist who is on holiday today... hope it doesn't cost too much for repairs... but she should be back on the road by the end of the week.

Make sure the cooling system is bleed properly by whoever is doing the job. You don't want air left in the system causing it to overheat.

New rear tyres today. Just noticed the tyres wete quite worn. Not keen on driving to Taupo on barely passable rubber. 205/60 r14 are hard to come by. Don't really want to that again. Can someone recommend a tyre size a bit easier to get for next time? Without me having to buy new rims preferably but all suggestions welcome. Ya never know I might be able to afford rims by the time they wear out. Thanks

More polishing and preening today... I have got the nose of the car looking reasonable... only 2/3 of the car to go.

Then I have to get onto the inside... door sills and vacuuming and polishing the dash.... oh and we'd better polish up the seats again too :)

Some how have to get all the black around the outside of the car looking good to, give them a good conditioning with something - can someone recommend something (home remedy would be good)

And then I'll wash the windows Friday night before the drive down the line.

I received a nice phone call from Pukekohe Paul today (can't recall his forum alias at the minute) and he suggested I ask on here if I need anything as I could have saved myself a few bob if I'd asked for the tyres I needed on here... OOPSIE! However; I do have a small problem with getting bits for the car and that is installing them. How much am I really going to save if I manage to get something for very little or free (as the case has been) and then turn around and have to pay my boss (of all people) to put it on for me?

I really appreciate all the help I have received from all of you. You've all been fantastic! And very helpful. More helpful than I could ever have imagined. But I have a cupboard full of parts that need to be installed onto my girl and no way of actually being able to install them.

Now, I'm not some girl that doesn't want to get her hands dirty or anything. Because there is nothing I love more than being underneath a car. In all honesty, perhaps I should have done mechanics. But I didn't want to be mistaken for being the butch lesbian with a bad attitude or being patted down by the guys out there. Let's face it, when it comes to engines, it's a mans world. But flip, if you guys are willing to offer help (and tools), I'd ditch the kids, drive to your place and pick up the spanner myself if I could. All I need is a helping hand, a little guidance, I'd be happy as under my car doing it all.

When I was a teen, I was into Performance Car and Fast Fours magazines (until they started plastering them with 90% naked girls on hoods in the mid-late 90's). I dreamed of owning a MkII MR2 since I was fifteen, which is about when every boy racer had one (not long after that came the "Supra phase"). I used to sit in the back of my parents Townace and count the 2's on the motorway. I always wanted a yellow one too (thankfully, I've outgrown yellow, but not PINK).

Anyway, I have my dream buggy now (not that I can afford her) but I'm NEVER letting her go! If she shits herself, she can just rot under my carport. To be honest, things may seem bleak (financially) for me at the moment, but I know in my heart of hearts, it's not going to be like this forever. My part time job is my stepping stone to bigger and better things. Once upon a time, I was a sales rep. I could sell this club and an MR2 to a Honda junkie (if of course, I had the right information to back me up).

So, I do believe I will have to take my Prude off the road after my trip to Taupo. I've racked up a little too much on the tab at work and I cannot be tempted to drive what I cannot afford at the moment. However, if anyone is willing to help out and get these bits installed that I need, I'd be really really grateful. TIA

A GEN 5 Altezza 3S-GE won't go into an MR2 without major mods. They are upright engines where the earlier GENs are leaned over. I think a 1JZ-GTE wouldn't fit transverse like a 3S. They are probably 50% longer too.
