Dropped the motor off at my mates workshop where we have a hoist to easily do the motor swap and started putting bits together

Lightweight Flywheel and Heavy Duty Clutch installed

Hose from Hell installed

Old motor out

Resprayed engine bay black

Old clutch and Flywheel (nothing exciting)

New motor ready to go

Motor in and Intercooler piping routed

All plumbed up and ready to go

Test runs on the hoist, got a nice little flame (apologies if you cant see the video, you'll need a plugin for your browser)

Blew a CT20b and a CT26 and installed a WRC CT26 (this one should last)

That exhaust manifold looks complicated. How do you even bolt it up?

Now the MR2 is running as it should, running wastegate pressure (14psi) and has quite the kick to it. So much fun to drive.

2 days after getting it running as it should i took it to 4 and rotors nationals and threw it down the strip. Pulled a 13.5 with launches bogging down on the line, intercooler pipes popping off and when i did get a good run it would hit speed cut before the line and bog the motor down and i was rolling across the finish line with nothing... Should be able to do high 12s but oh well bigger goals to push for

Haha with a bit of effort and a lot of cursing, got it down to about a 20 minute unbolt and remove from the car now

A couple of problems occurred whilst running the new manifold. One was it kept burning through my intercooler silicone joiner, and two it cracked..

The joiner was too close to the manifold and i probably went through a joiner a week, which i must add is rather expensive, until i came up with a nifty solution using some spare exhaust wrap i have lying around.

A month or so passes and slowly i can hear an exhaust leak occurring, unsure where its coming from i continue to drive it. Eventually i find its coming from the exhaust manifold and the two gets parked up. The turbo is spooling but doesn't get to full spool till after 6k rpm sometime. At this point its just not worth driving until i can get my hands on a Sinco Steam Pipe Manifold. More exhaust gas is ending up in my engine bay instead of out the tail pipe and its making my engine bay dirty.
A couple more months pass and luckily a friend of mine was selling his custom made top mount steam pipe mani and i'm in luck. Picked it up for a bargain, near new, only test fitted to his car.

Note to self, in hindsight don't even bother with a stainless manifold.. too many problems and not strong enough. Sure they look nice but yeah.. f**k that, never again..

Custom built by the man Steve Murch himself for the mr2, this should push me closer and way past my goal of 300kw.
Isn't she beautiful! It's nearly sad to trap such stunning engineering under the bonnet, but onwards and upwards right!?
