True. Ive got spherical in mine. Testing them out.GDII wrote:I can see how the brass bushes would work. Mine worked well but were binding up the cable and first gear wouldn't click in. Just slides in with a lot of force. My main concern about the solid bushes is the fact that the cables rotate a bit and that is why the rubber bushes from factory are designed to move. My spherical bearing on my car is constantly rotated on one of the cables. It doesn't sit parallel with the ground like the solid bushes do.
As a result I have a much nicer gear change and made my supposedly worn out gearbox feel far better. It's not perfect as the syncros are worn in 2nd and 3rd but it's a massive improvement.
Nice choice in colour Alex. Hopefully you can get the funds together to get this colour on and get a decent finish.

Re: Alex's SW20
Car spent the last few days at the panel beaters, I noticed the rust around the windscreen had gotten worse over the last few months so I decided to just go ahead and have it fixed.
Definitely not a pretty sight for now

Re: Alex's SW20
Decided it was time to do something with the audio, the car only had a single 4" Fusion speaker and some no-name 6.5" speaker from 1999 lol
The amp fits perfectly in the lockable compartment behind the driver, so you would never know it was there
Also, I have a factory airbox from a 1990 N/A if anyone needs one.
V6 conversion will begin on December 27th!

Re: Alex's SW20
Today was the first day for the conversion, got the fuel tank half out, such a pain in the ass but it needs to happen to put the new fuel pump in.
Also stripped the boot, engine lid and ECU out aswell as drained the fluids
The clutch plate arrived the other day, we're not using the Pressure Plate however as we've already got a Chromoly Motorsport one.
And I've also got some 2K PPG silver paint, I'm planning on doing the transmission, engine bay heatshields and probably some other bits too. Should make it look a lot cleaner

Re: Alex's SW20
After about 15L of Brake Cleaner we got some parts all cleaned up and painted!
Transmission was a massive PIA but turned out quite nice...
The engine bay heat shields...
We also painted the starter motor and the rear subframe!
Also got the engine bay all cut and polished, would love to respray it but that's not really an option at this point. Took 2 of us over 5 hours total to get it to this state
Just waiting on the Flywheel to come back from the shop and then it's time to start putting the motor in.
FS: 3SGE Alternator
: 3SGE Flywheel, clutch plate and cover plate
: Stock Exhaust
Offers PM me

Interesting, that's an N/A gearbox. Let us know how long it lasts with the 2GR attached to it.

It should be OK, others have run this transmission with the 2GR before and have been fine.JasonFriday13 wrote:Interesting, that's an N/A gearbox. Let us know how long it lasts with the 2GR attached to it.
I am planning on putting a E153 (Or alternative) later this year, mostly because of the taller gears.

. E153's are stronger than the S54, so that's a good backup plan.

Re: Alex's SW20
If you want taller gearing, you want the e153 from a camry. they have a 3.9 final drive instead of the 4.2 of the MR2, but no LSD.Dontcopy wrote:It should be OK, others have run this transmission with the 2GR before and have been fine.JasonFriday13 wrote:Interesting, that's an N/A gearbox. E153 from an mr2 is only 9% taller geared than a s54.
E153 from the Camry would be 19% taller gearing.

It won't LOLDontcopy wrote:It should be OK,
Camry E-series box or E153 from a MR2 or nothing.
I've had a 1MZ-FE powered MR2 destroy a S54 with a single average launch. Its not worth the hassle of dropping the motor again

Re: Alex's SW20
Finally got the flywheel back from the shop, so the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate are all now installed.
Installed a new clutch release bearing and got the transmission most of the way installed too. Hopefully it'll be fully mounted in the car very soon.
