Widebody V6 SW20

Post by carnetics »

Hey guys thought I might as well start putting up a parts list/things I have done with the car since I got it (from Gerrit).

Pictures when I get the time. Very busy working at the hospital (student physio at the moment)

1) Enkei RPF1s 18x8 front 18x9 Rear, 30mm spacers in the rear
2) Falken 215/35/18 front, 235/40/18 rear (achilles ATR sport) - Looking at getting Nitto Invos for the rear soon (hopefully)

*Engine was leaking from almost all the seals on the motor and gearbox. Quite bad leaks and the smell of burning oil was incredible. Every time I drove off from somewhere there would be a mix of oils on the floor. Syncros in the gearbox were crunching. Speedo gear inside the gearbox broken (tested by buying the speedo gear on the outside of the gearbox from Japan but the speedo still didn't work). Engine and gearbox came out. Apparently the old flywheel had its bolts extended to fit the V6 and it didn't sit correctly and it shook the engine and gearbox apart causing the seals to fail. Oil all over the inside of the clutch as well. Newish exedy HD clutch plate had to be binned.

3) All the seals in the engine have been replaced (every single one). Rocker cover seal has been replaced twice but still leaks mechanic thinks its that the head is not completely flat. Minor leak will leave it for now.
4) Fidanza flywheel
5) MR2 Turbo Clutch Plate with Exedy clutch case and release bearing
6) Full gearbox rebuild (no LSD) - Speedo gear in the gearbox has to be custom made the guy couldn't find one that fit
7) Removed AC compressor
8) New distributor
9) New plugs
10) Both left and right rear CV joints replaced (they snapped)
11) New Seals (Left door and targa top) (Right still to be done)
12) EMSPowered Adjustable swaybar links (to be installed)
13) Ultra Racing 21mm front sway bar and 23mm rear sway bar (to be installed)
14) BC Gold coilovers (to be installed)
15) New air flow meter

Whats next

Harness Bar/ Roll cage
Bucket Seats with rails
Racing Harness
New Boss kit (The one now is a bit iffy with the turning signals)
Steering wheel release kit
Nardi steering wheel :)
Front CV joints
Front Radius arm bushings need replacing
Replace the steering components like the ball joints etc (TWOSRUS sells a replacement kit)
Braided Brake Lines
New Discs
New Brake Pads
New Brake Fluid

Maybe list

Refit the bodykit, repair the cracks, repaint in white
Carbon Fibre Engine Lid
Carbon Fibre Front Lid
Rear Diffuser
Carbon Fiber Front Lip
High mount Carbon Fiber Wing
REV6 Lights
Smoked Clear Corner Lights

This is what I have for now. I'm a fourth year physiotherapy student at the moment working at the hospital in the mornings and work a job at night to make some cash for the car :)

The car is being set up for track use.

Hoping I will find time in the weekend one day when I'm not working to come out on a MR2 Run somewhere with the club.

Those front CV joints are a pain to get hold of, might end up needing to buy them from Kaleco Auto Parts online (they do lots of hard to find parts like blinker fluid, muffler bearings, lowering nails etc)

It came out to show itself to the world at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few years ago. Just to prove it's not a myth, I guess.

Anyway...

I'm impressed by the amount of work you've been putting into this car to get it sorted mate, good on you. I do hope you keep it road legal so you can bring it on some runs as well as using it on the track. Hope we see you around! 8)

My coolant seems to be disappearing somewhere. Levels keep dropping but no signs of overheating or misfire.

Since the seals were all leaking, mechanic is suspecting head gasket issue (I'm praying it isn't). Will be chemical tested on Thursday to find the source.

Fingers crossed its a pipe or the radiator or something.

Turns out coolant leak was a faulty hose clamp. Replaced.

Next problem: There's now a strong smell of petrol inside the car after a drive.

Getting stronger over the last week. Don't mind the smell but will have to check it out. Just in case its a ticking timebomb (catching fire that is).

To be done tomorrow

- 2x new rear tyres - Neuton NT5000 235/40/18

Next List of upgrades in the next week (done at the same time)

1) Front CVs (Left and right)
2) BC Golds (keeping at stock height) with new sway bar links from BC as well (Yaay! :) )
3) Front and rear sway bars (replacing with ultra racing 21mm front 23mm rear
4) Steering refresher kit from TWOSRUS (Inner rack ends? Outer tie rod ends and steering bellows)
5) Front bushing kit (from TWOSRUS) my radius arm bushings are cracked might as well replace the whole set
6) 4 ball joints (whole car)
7) Wheel alignment

Plus possibly replacing the seal on the fuel pump (or if I find out where that smell is coming from). The V6 runs quite rich. Have adjusted the AFM (turned it back a few clicks) to lean out the mixture which improved my fuel consumption considerably (Approx 45km/$10 of fuel with a few hard pulls mainly motorway driving.)

Hopefully it drives better after all this. Its on stock shocks and springs at the moment.

Might look into putting spacers in the front to help the wheels sit a bit more flush but its not certed so not too keen. Yet ;)

Hopefully the 35p offset on the 8 inch fronts won't cause any rubbing. Running 215/35/18 tyres on the front (Falkens)

Do you mean wheel bearings? CVs are only on the drive wheels.
