Re: the smile maker
Only thing I did do with the supercharger was look at the oil when the motor was out. Guessing this wont be that easy to fix.. easier then the water pump removal though surelyJasonFriday13 wrote:This would suggest the bearings in the supercharger are wearing out, because the idler noise would be around all the time, not just under hard acceleration. Also, have you checked the supercharger oil level?blown wrote:ive changed the bearing in the idler pulley and the noise has gone... however it does briefly come back under hard acceleration so im wondering if i need to just need to get a different idler pulley altogether because as it stands unless I can 100% rule out the idler as the noise it still could be the waterpump...

Re: the smile maker
Yeah charger can be pulled with engine in so not to major
The just need to pull it apart on a bench
Think the trickiest part is lining it all up properly when putting it back together
Cant remember but im pretty sure you need a bearing puller maybe?
Ill find the walk through and post it in AW tech so's not to swomp your tread
Might pay to inspect lobes if the bearings really far gone and just invest in another charger off good ol trademe
If you do rebuild yours let me know and ill rip mine out and do mine with you at the same time

Re: the smile maker
I've found the source of the noise and it wasn't the supercharger it was water pump related everyone kept saying oh there's something floating around getting knocked around the impeller in the water pump.. a bit of stress with thinking I'm going to destroy my motor and I missed this pretty easy to spot problem
car's all put back together cooling system bled again went for a drive for about 20 minutes to warm the car of properly and seems to be going good now no weird noises now
And yeah I know I should have seen the pulley was getting worse and worse but 8 months ago I knew nothing about cars and I've still got along way to go yet.. the joys of learning
in regards to this i'm very lucky I hadn't chucked out my old waterpump yet as we used the hydraulic press to swap the pulley flanges of my old one to the new one as it was all stretched and just knacked.. never going to remove the waterpump without the cambelt again so frustrating with my fat hands car's all put back together cooling system bled again went for a drive for about 20 minutes to warm the car of properly and seems to be going good now no weird noises now

Re: the smile maker
I think i'll buy another sc12 when one comes up cheap enough on trademe as I don't know how long mine may last with this 14psi pulley, just incase then if it can be rebuilt i'll have a spare to chuck in the car while I have one on the bench. I think I found the rebuilding website.. matrix garage? looked like fun for sure lolAsh Kelly Barr wrote:Yeah charger can be pulled with engine in so not to major

Re: the smile maker
cars been going somewhat ok apart from my left inner c.v falling apart at 70km and that's caused a whole lot of other problems
a knock has developed in the left rear drive line, seems to be 1 of 3 things, wheel bearing collapsed, outer c.v needs replacing or the diff in the gearbox is on its way out
so to rule everything out I've got a replacement wheel bearing ready to go in then if that doesn't solve it I'll chuck in my auto outer c.v on and if worse comes to worse I have a spare gearbox I can swap in
things not looking to great but at lest I can replace everything that may be the cause

Re: the smile maker
finished up at my old job in February and went to study.. so being a poor student I cant really work on the car for awhile but I did get a few things before I finished.. got the twosrus engine mounts, full bushes kit and steering rack overhaul. man what a difference that's made the overall handling and feel of the car.. can't say I like the vibration but i'm getting used to it now its been a few weeks
Also got some side skirts with the spats from a chap named Errol up north of Auckland. these were in pretty good nick apart from one that's been fixed and now almost ready to paint and put on the car which im pretty stoked can't wait to get these on said he gave me the best of the 2 sets he had hence the red spats and white skirts lol Also managed to get a whole bunch of goodies from a guy up near taranaki that used to race aw11's many years ago. got a left hand fender, both headlights with motors, front bumper no skin though.. haha, front lip and a manual 4agze ecu
mounted the lip on the car as a temp/perm test fit lol.. the unbogged one was flattened out and needed a bit of force to bolt it on, might get the lip from aerotech eventually so I might just pick the bog off and paint black with spray cans.. uhh also managed to break the numberplate mounting brackets while I was trying to stop coolant from pouring out while I changed a perished seal on the new radiator so I've lost a fog light mount to the numberplate.. looks like by undoing the bolts along the rail, the mounts are spot welded on maybe? can anyone confirm this? the rail looks pretty rusty and I don't want to pull it off unless I have too...
also a pick of the side skirt that's been repaired, will look brand new once its painted
