Re: the smile maker
with 5 days off I've planned to get a lot of stuff done that just takes a lot of mucking around, exhaust for one part I found a black sw20 3sge manual being wrecked near where I live and asked for the muffler got a price, agreed on it then they removed it this was Tuesday I think they listed the car on trademe the week before. anyway I rang them again Friday morning regarding the shifter cables as to long would be better then to short. anyway spoke to the same guy was like yup ill pull em out now come by in an hour, went in to pick up and walked out with only a muffler thank god they cut it off earlier.... they crushed the car
the clutch lines are finished. and no leaks atlest at the moment haha but I can't bleed it by myself, should have brought home the speedbleeder from work. live and learn

bought a sw20 short shifter I found off of trademe someone on the web showed how it to make it work and it looked pretty easy. it was lol this was the end result so now I've just got to either find a place for the oil cooler or just run stock in the radiator pipe for now either all it ok right now

Re: the smile maker
ughh I had one of those moments... had all the wiring plugs in etc.. put the pipe from the AFM to the throttle and turned the key and it just wouldn't start.. dad walked in looked at it then told me to put the intercooler on.. far out man I feel like a idiot
so after all said and done with the intercooler on, timings not 100% but I've got the dizzy sitting roughly in its original position, turn key and it fires up first pop no hesitation... so hmm before the motor was pulled out it would crank for ages before it wanted to fire up, while the motors been out I cleaned the cold start injector replaced the fuel filter and had the AFM fixed (fell apart while taking it out of the engine bay, 1 screw was missing, plug fell apart) sweeeet that was my biggest concern as I didn't want to pull the tank out to look at the fuel pump
bled the clutch system man what pain had at lest 2 leaks under the car even though I felt they were tight but just needed that extra bit me and the old man tried to bleed it the other night but it just wasn't happening so I bought home a bleeder that connects up to an air line( no idea what they're called? speed bleeder? lol) man still took 20 minutes to get all the air out but the pedal was all weird had ridiculous amount of travel turns out the clutch master cylinder replacement I got was a bit different, the fork part the sits on the pedal itself was about 10mm forward on the new one. chucked on the original one and shes perfect even running 3/16 hydraulic line from a 1/4 outlet master cylinder I had fears the pedal might be super heavy but its normal
pretty much the last things that need to be done now are.
*modify entire exhaust to make the sw20 muffler work
*modify shifter base to hold the cables
*make the shifter cable adapters with some 30mm long nuts with some 6mm threaded rod

We've all had those moments, went to do my timing, wouldn't start, after scratching my head and going over the leads and coil I had forgot to plug the CAS back into the loom

Re: the smile maker
been sick this week so not much has been done to the car but its almost done. shifter base has been modified to allow for these random cables, still have no idea what they're off of but they now work. almost the side to side cable needs to have some threaded rod and nuts added but atlest the other side works fine I was worried the throw would be to short and i'd end up smashing the gearbox changing gears to fast but at this stage it seems ok but i'll find out for sure afterwards
the sw20 muffler's been abit more complicated then I thought it would be - original flexipipe has been removed and a shorter one added to allow for the wider sw20 exhaust. the U bend has also had a chunk taken out as it was far to wide and now its somewhat closer to the original SC size wise... also means it will need all new mounts . So... now all my exhaust will have is a plain ol' stock sw20 muffler... how loud are these things? like I don't want a loud car or anything i'm over all that I want more of a sleeper

SW20 mufflers aren't very loud, and it will flow enough to handle a 4age, even with a supercharger.

Re: the smile maker
car is pretty much done, exhaust will be finished by next weekend so going to be fun times ahead and I'll will be giving dad a hand doing his project next so that will be interesting.. supercharged Holden ute
gave my leads a bit of a clean what a difference they're actually red I mentioned that dad found a oil cooler from some Mitsubishi down at local wreckers that was just overall better then that chunky silver one I was going to use as I just couldn't find anywhere to put it. anyway.. got around 2 and a half meters of 10mm oil hose so I could bring the cooler to under the intercooler.. seemed like the best place to get good airflow and I might as well make use of it so in the end it was decided to attach this to the intercooler as there wasn't anywhere to mount a bracket turned out pretty good and there's more then enough space between the two. not decided on if I want a filter relocation kit yet so this may change around a bit yet.
this shifter cable deal has been a huge headache but it does work now but I'll never be able use mr2 cables.. but they work now pictures are pretty self explanatory was crazy lucky with this.. if it needed to be any longer I would have had to dent the floor. pretty simple saw how someone did this on their shifter cables works pretty good. i had fears the throw would be ridiculous and i'd murder the gearbox and honestly it feels boarder line.. i'll have to be careful and not change to quick.. i reckon i'll be going from 2nd to 5th quite a lot though

Re: the smile maker
sweet thanks for that man, that's good news.JasonFriday13 wrote:SW20 mufflers aren't very loud, and it will flow enough to handle a 4age, even with a supercharger.
I bled the cooling system using the 2 bleeders up front sucks that I don't have a tap fitting for the alloy radiator so it im not 100% certain I got all the air out of it completely so i'll need to keep an eye out on it for awhile just incase don't want all this work to be for nothing
finished modifying the shifter's and I went for a quick hoon down my street (no exhaust still, just headers and midpipe) car scared me when SC kicked in partly from the noise and partly from the insane acceleration so I think i'll be taking it easy for awhile to get used to the power
mr2 feels mental probably due to the fact I've been driving a 60kw 1300cc Nissan march 5spd for 2 and a half months and i'm used to driving a snail
gearbox feels really really good changes gear's smoothly I also got the instrument cluster from the same guy as I got the gearbox off of so providing it hasn't been changed in the past the gearbox has done 135,000 km's but i'll never know for sure if that's true or not... as for the speedo cluster my original one had stickers all over it that couldn't be removed... and the new one has been pimped with leds, blue SC light and blue indicators, purple high beam... looks really sweet and it's in really good nick. also a manual one so I've got a volt gauge now

Re: the smile maker
what is this screwdriver trick? i'm guessing its not the hold it to your ear ? lol
Exhaust is finished and it looks amazing.. like an quad tip super car
apparently either I've majorly messed up somewhere or this timing mark is incorrect we can only get it to be 5 degrees the wrong way rather then the 10 degrees advanced.. so i'm not sure if the timing belt is out a tooth? or maybe this timing gun is knackered ....
other thing that's frustrating is a sickly flappy/grindy/ticky noise coming from around the waterpump, timing belt and alternator area I can't narrow it down more then that as it's pretty loud... thinking the timing belt is hitting something? time to pull it apart

Re: the smile maker
narrowed it down to either something in the waterpump or the SC idle pulley bearing is shot, it does spin pretty good but side to side movement is crazy if I put the idle pulley on, have almost no tension on the belt so everything still spins the waterpump doesn't make a noise but when I tighten the belt the noise comes back.. so I plan to replace the bearing tomorrow nothing open today and repco in Hastings is sorta meh

Re: the smile maker
exhaust finished Saturday night... really like the look of dual tips. looks so awesome. had to remove the heat shield under the boot to get the muffler lifted enough to hide it, all the original mounts were used, some parts modified to suit.. muffler is quiet but has a very deep tone to it and sounds amazing when the supercharger is whining with the deep base overall just plain awesomeness... very happy

Re: the smile maker
Screw driver -> tdc I got it lol yep timing mark was incorrect and have marked the crank pulley to suit and put a white dot on it
so the car had a loud metal to metal rattle like throwing a stone in a blender which I thought might be the waterpump bearing but as it was brand new and has zero play Ive put it out of the picture for now. the idler pulley on the wp/sc belt was vibrating like crazy causing the water pump togo nuts as these two guys are almost touching... ive changed the bearing in the idler pulley and the noise has gone... however it does briefly come back under hard acceleration so im wondering if i need to just need to get a different idler pulley altogether because as it stands unless I can 100% rule out the idler as the noise it still could be the waterpump..
On the other hand.. man you really dont know what you've got till its gone aye I missed driving my mr2 finally got that smile on

Re: the smile maker
This would suggest the bearings in the supercharger are wearing out, because the idler noise would be around all the time, not just under hard acceleration. Also, have you checked the supercharger oil level?blown wrote:ive changed the bearing in the idler pulley and the noise has gone... however it does briefly come back under hard acceleration so im wondering if i need to just need to get a different idler pulley altogether because as it stands unless I can 100% rule out the idler as the noise it still could be the waterpump...
