Miles' turbo project

Post by OnslaughtNZ »

Hiya :)

Some backstory here,

I own a 1990 GT
-Original 3S-GTE went bang some years ago
-A previous owner stuck a Gen2 3S-GE in there as a replacement.
-Mated to original E153 transmission and a majority of the 3S-GTE loom.
-Smokey, burns a decent amount of oil, noisy valvetrain.

Bloke I bought it from tossed in a bearing and ring kit as "spares" so I never had great faith in the health of the engine :roll:

Recently the N/A engine spun a bearing and I've taken the chance to return the car to it's factory state.

Enter 3S-GTE :mrgreen:

It's not all smooth sailing however.

The engine I've sourced is out of an ST185 Celica GT4.

So I'm on the lookout for anything and everything to make this engine work in an SW20 chassis, sing out if you're wrecking a turbo.

Things I've already collected are as follows;
-SW20 3S-GTE loom
-SW20 3S-GTE longblock (missing lots of parts, got it mostly for reference against the Celica engine)
-SW20 3S-GTE ECU x2 (both ecu's are to suit the pre '92 loom. I have not tested their functionality)
-alternator bracket
-valve cover

Things I need;
-Coolant elbow (Sensor tree, gearbox side of engine. Leads to filler neck)
-Intercooler + piping
-Exhaust(?)
-Advice

As well as probably lots of other little niggly bits and pieces.

To add to your list, I think you will also need the dipstick, dipstick tube and thermostat inlet. I think the crank pulley is also different, but I can't remember whether there is any problem using the Celica one on the MR2. There are some parts (e.g. alternator and bracket) that I think you should be able to take off the 3SGE in the vehicle and use on the 3SGTE.
