If you go bigger rotors you'll need different calipers or brackets to space the calipers out. Go with 22V and when you get to the limit of them see what else you can get.myeyehurts wrote:I'll probably do aftermarket bigger rotors, i think.

Good point, though a good set of Wilwoods would probably pull it all up a lot faster wouldn't it?GDII wrote:If you go bigger rotors you'll need different calipers or brackets to space the calipers out. Probably but you have to think about the handbrake if you do the rears too, if not adjusting the brake bias with a bias adjuster.
What's the cost difference too.

Probably a lot. I have a contact at Toyota so I'll price up a new set of 93+ turbo brakes (caliper brackets, calipers, rotors, dust covers, brake bias valve, and brake master cylinder)GDII wrote:Probably but you have to think about the handbrake if you do the rears too, if not adjusting the brake bias with a bias adjuster.

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
Even if you do get good pricing a Wilwood setup would cost very similar to doing it with all new stuff from Toyota. There are always second hand 22V setups going for cheap. Rebuild kits are cheap and master cylinders can come from multiple other cars.

When you say 22V, is this a visible part number or something? Sorry, I'm quite green when it comes to MR2sGDII wrote:Even if you do get good pricing a Wilwood setup would cost very similar to doing it with all new stuff from Toyota. This is cool! Always thought a cam'd 3S with ITB's would be dope!
I would think 90' bends into the head after the throttles would be a big hinder on induction?? Maybe cut the flanges off and make straight manifold and make the throttles go into the boot?? Then get some cheap trumpets for the throttles or reuse the ones on the runners if you could?
And some under drive pulleys and a light flywheel

Yeah the induction pipes will be coming off and remodeled. The firewall has been legally modified in order to accommodate the bends, so there's enough room in there to make something work. Light flywheel is on the cards as well, i think that's key to putting down as much power, lighten everything and tune the Link well.Ash Kelly Barr wrote:This is cool! That's all good. I'm still learning and I've owned mine for 7+ years.
On the rear caliper there is a casting mark that is either 16V or 22V. The front's do not have this but visually the 16V front and 22V front look quite different.
16V rear

22V front

22V has increased diameter and thicker rotors front and rear. These will be good for what you want.

Compression is easiest, with those cams too :D
Weight removing is the only other way
If your getting Pistons or rods get them weighed up and take a bit of weight out of the crank.
I'm sure underdrive pulleys for your alt and water pump wouldn't be hard to find cheap.
If your pulling it apart you could tidy up the ports. Just a battery drill with sand paper to take edges down and smooth the surface.
I'm unsure what gearbox your planing on using but something small and light so you don't have to many loss'
I not familiar with S series but I know c6X are 6sp, pretty light and proven to run 300hp sweet

I'm yet to work out my current compression ratio but the block has been decked and the head will be skimmed in the next few days, plus I'll run a 0.3mm head gasket. Compression should be pretty up there! Pistons are genuine Toyota (oversize) and the rods have been shot-peened and lightened already. Crank has been lightened and strengthened too.. Lots of work has been done to this, it's incredible! I have receipts for over $18,000 on parts and engine work alone, I paid less than 10% of this.. I'll be getting the head cleaned up at the cylinder head shop once it's there next week.

The water pump pulley is part of the cam belt system so you'd find it hard to change this. No point either.Ash Kelly Barr wrote: I'm sure underdrive pulleys for your alt and water pump wouldn't be hard to find cheap.
Alternator pulley is small anyway.

I'll run a standard gearbox for now and once that goes ping i'll consider my options. Perhaps just a strengthened factory box.

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
The head and the block are the same, it's the bits bolted on the outside that are different between the cars. I have a Celica gen 3 turbo engine in my car, all I had to do was remove the Celica parts and put on MR2 parts (MR2 crank pulley, engine mount, alternator, coolant elbow).myeyehurts wrote:Ah, this is information I've been hunting for - can you expand on that please? Thank you!JasonFriday13 wrote:I agree, the cost of the link is at least $1600 so apart from the engine being borked it's a good deal.
Also, it's a Celica gen 3 engine because the coolant tree isn't the mr2 one.
If the standard box goes ping, then just upgrade to an E153 gearbox (from a turbo MR2). These take 200KW without breaking a sweat.myeyehurts wrote:I'll run a standard gearbox for now and once that goes ping i'll consider my options. Perhaps just a strengthened factory box.
