Looks like you making good progress. Thought you would have got engine running well before diving into setting car up for autocross.
Looking at those pics got me thinking. Wonder how difficult it would be to move handbrake to the LHS? I hate having it on the RHS next to my long legs. Probably the biggest challenge would be the centre console as it has a divot for where the brake fits.

Yeah fair call re engine running, though I still have some work to do on the motor itself before it goes for the tune, so while I wait for parts for the engine I figured I may as well push on with the interior work! Rerouting the handbrake wouldn't be a huge job, you'd have to re-run the cable under the car to the other side of the tunnel - not sure what troubles you'd run into doing that though.Benckj wrote:Looks like you making good progress. Get a USDM car? Far too hard to reroute the cable system. Going hydraulic would be the only way to get around this and on a road legal car having a hydraulic hand brake needs a cert or something like that.Benckj wrote:Looks like you making good progress. Although I have seen someone mod the standard system to use hydraulic but I think it was using the stock lever and short cable to actuate a hydraulic cylinder under the car to the brakes so no use here.

Can't see driving on wrong side of car to get away from handbrake. Kind of like moving the mountain to Mohamand.
Might pull the underside panels off again get to see how practical it would be to shift. Don't thinks it would be too big of a deal but probably not a high priority job.

Don't over think this one Jim. The hand brake lever is the least of your problems....
Which brackets are you using for the front brakes? Any reason you didn't get the rears and RX8 Sport rotors?

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
Getting sorted for a long road trip so handbrake position is an issue with my long legs. Car is going well with no problems. Just survived a track day at Ruapuna where I didn't hardy shut the car off for over 2 hrs. Burned up 3/4 tank in under 100k's.
Anyway this is off topic so I'll navel gaze elsewhere.

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
I used some custom adapters a friend of mine made - aircraft-grade anodized aluminium. I'll do the rear adapters and RX8 rotors later on, for now I'll use the factory rears with some good pads.GDII wrote:Don't over think this one Jim. The hand brake lever is the least of your problems....

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
So after much 'deliberation' (swearing and throwing tools) I've discovered my wheels don't clear my Supra TT big-brake kit, so instead of doing the sensible thing and changing for another set of wheels, I've decided to part with the brake setup (see the buy/sell/swap section, $400 ono) and run with the 1993+ turbo setup with good pads & fluid. Feels like a bit of a step backwards but I'll upgrade to a big-brake setup later on once I have some money/race experience.

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
I don't think it's a step backwards. You haven't had it on the track yet so you don't know where the cars, or your weaknesses are. Run them as you say you are and I think you'll be surprised. Your car isn't turbo so the speeds you'll be getting won't be high enough to worry about brakes quite yet.
What part of the wheels don't clear the brakes? The rim or the spokes? Would spacers work? If you are using this on the road with coilovers you'll need a cert so spacers can be done at the same time.

Or keep them if you get a turbo or do a turbo swap!

Re: Myeyehurts' MR2 With Quad Throttles
Let me guess, the wheel diameter is too small and the inside of the rim hits the caliper? I think you need 17 inch rims to clear the calipers if I remember correctly. Anyway, a friend of mine (pureadrenalin on here) still has factory calipers on his racecar with upgraded rotors, pads, lines and fluid, and that stops very well. I've had the privilege of driving that car more than once.myeyehurts wrote:I've discovered my wheels don't clear my Supra TT big-brake kit, so instead of doing the sensible thing and changing for another set of wheels
