Re: 1996 MR2 GT-S
Fancy seats Clive. They are what I would want in my MR2 but not full leather. Too slippery in the corners and too hot in the sun.

Next time you see them will be in Blue
The guy used the word 'lag'. The only mod has been the shitty job of fitting a Pod filter.
So will pull that off and clean airflow meter. Then see if I have the piping here to do a better job.
Mate said some air flow meters do not like the oil type pod filters, and this is one of those.
Me, I do not know S*** about that sort of stuff.
Motor is sound. Just an issue we think that could be the airflow meter. Over fueling. Running very rich.
I did have a drive and all seems well, except the issue with too much fuel.
When the problem is fixed someone is going to get a cheap 2.
Reg, warrant, cam belt done under 30,000 ago. Car has 137,000 on the clock.
Clean bum. But a oil weep around Turbo and I see some oil below head, distributor end.
What you reckon would be a fair price?
I already have someone interested, so they will have first refusal. After that it will be posted here.
Fixed and cleaned up.
It will leave the drive for the same price I paid for it.
Phil they will only be on show when I am not driving, most likely.
Covered at all other times, so Alex does not soil them. I know it sounds strange fitting them and not showing them off all the time.
Edited: Not leather. Leatherette. Shame.
And I just found a receipt for sale this year for $10,000

Your correct about the filter oil and AFM's. Can cause lots of issues with fueling.
I really wouldn't worry about seat covers. From my experience they can do more harm than good. Just get some leather conditioner and enjoy the look, smell & feel.

Re: 1996 MR2 GT-S
Flapper type AFMs are not like the hotwire ones. Oil doesn't really affect them. The MR2 uses a flap and a potentiometer to meter air, the hot wire type, if they get oil on the wire will cause issues.
Try this. Can adjust the fueling with screw on it but best use an O2 sensor to ensure you aren't messing with it too much.

^ that's a good point. Flapper AFM's may still be an issue as they can be problematic. Not hard to chuck in a spare and see if it makes a difference.

Re: 1996 MR2 GT-S
Corrections:
Cambelt done at 113,258
Speedo has Ks 139,168
Now the good news!
It seems it was a major air leak. On the air intake pipe between AFM and turbo, there is some puk pipework. And they were coming apart.
With a plastic section pushed into the rubber one that goes onto the turbo. No way to clamp it tight.
Made a temp fix and took it for a run. That is seems has resolved that.
Motor does seem strong, but there is a hesitation now and then.
This could still be a bit of air leak as I have yet to resolve the S**** connection. Also the system may need a good clean.
Does that mean. I need to go thrash it for a while?

Re: 1996 MR2 GT-S
Common problem for the GEN2 intake elbow between the AFM and turbo to crack. This will be mostly causing the fueling problem but if anything would be running lean due to the turbo sucking more air into the system than the AFM is reading.clawnz wrote:Corrections:

Not 100% sure where the leak is from your description.

Blue is all good.
Very happy with how the mechanic performed. Yes it cost me!
Motor out, Cat removed and new exhaust fitted.
Now this is stunning! 3in and makes less noise than the one that came off. It is very quiet.
Fly wheel machined new Factory clutch fitted. Smooth beyond belief.
Seats fitted along with matching steering wheel.
Found a suede glove (black with red stitching to match.
HID headlights fitted and rewired car to get working. What a pain. The way Toyota power the headlights.
Today is finally reassemble the lights, after setting up the beams last night.
Fit backing light in place.I left it out as there is zero room where the exhaust runs across behind the back lower grill.
Saturday was Drive time. And I had to go talk to my Auto Sparky so he could show me what I needed to do for the lights to work correctly.
Went to Hamilton, 1hr 32mins run down. Then on the way back went across to Springdale. I know I should not promote this road. But No1 road is
Hugely fun to drive at speed. I need a new speedo, or GPS one. Off the clock!
