Yes indeed very much looking forward to seeing this beast on a run...
I hope you have invested in some decent rubber?
Something tells me you're gonna need it.

Few months away yet but will be great to meet the group!
Currently has Falken FK-452 fitted, personally I have found them fine on other cars but happy to receive input from people who may know better

Re: Zimmo's 1991 2GRFE project
Generally it's Toyo T1R or Bridgestone Adrenalin RE003. I'm using Toyo T1R for the street and R888 for motorsport events. I haven't used RE003's but I hear they are just as good if not better than T1R tyres.

How are the T1R's for wear, I will drive the car frequently and want the impossible... sticky compound with decent wear characteristics.
The current tyres wear fast so not against changing.

Re: Zimmo's 1991 2GRFE project
On my 1990 NA I get 18,000km from my T1R rears for street driving, nothing too excessive with corner speeds and 36,000km for the fronts. They do wear faster than some tires. I was told the RE003 don't wear as fast because the rubber isn't as soft but the grip is still excellent. I'm tossing up between the T1Rs and RE003 at the moment. Both have their pros and cons for different reasons for my situation.
I really like the T1Rs and have been running them for 6+ years.

Re: Zimmo's 1991 2GRFE project
Thanks for the tyre advice, once the 452's are done I'll look at the two others you mentioned.
Nothing much to update, I ignored the sound advice to drive it first before forced induction and purchased a GT3582r turbo and after the wiring i'll take it to have it installed at BNR Engineering in Drury https://www.facebook.com/BNREngineering/

They are 330mm 6 pot XYZ front, the rears have the RX8 discs and standard 93 turbo calipers. Sadly I cannot find a big brake kit for the rear that has the cable type handbrake.

Those brakes should work well.Zimmo wrote:They are 330mm 6 pot XYZ front, the rears have the RX8 discs and standard 93 turbo calipers. Sadly I cannot find a big brake kit for the rear that has the cable type handbrake.

Just for info, the rear brakes are 93+ Turbo brakes in the US as their NA brakes were small but JDM cars NA and Turbo had the same larger brakes from the start of 92. The US like to date their cars 1 full year ahead of the actual build date.

Yes I forget about that and the fact that their octanes are also different, thanks for the reminder.

Nothing much to update this week except for the purchase of a Link G4+ Fury ECU http://www.linkecu.com/G4PlusFury has all the features I need and good VVT control.

Re: Zimmo's 1991 2GRFE project
Ok again nothing much is really happening.
Wiring is getting done about 8 hours of work remaining to get that sorted and the Motec C125 colour dash to connect and then off to BNR Engineering for the turbo to be connected. If you didn't know Brendon does really good work and is recommended by the likes of Steve Murch and helped in the building of the 2JZ BMW that Daynom Templeman races in the NZD1. So I am expecting good work for the fabrication.

This is going to be mental. My new daily driver is a Blade Master G with the 2GR. It's proper quick even with the six speed auto.

Re: Zimmo's 1991 2GRFE project
The Blade master is a nice daily driver, must be a bit of a handful all that power at the front wheels!
I'm only shooting for 400whp so It wont be mental fast but should be fun!
