Lol my friends also hated the idea of a pink turbo so that's why I picked the colour... hairdresser car needs a pretty hairdryer!

Don't worry once it gets hot it will turn a burn't orange colour then flake off.

Then just get it painted again I guess ;) exhaust housing has HPC extreme and the primer is acid etch stuff so hopefully it will last a month or two :p

A pink hair dryer. Ha ha I can't wait to see this crazy beast...! I imagine you'll scare the hell outta whoever made the hair dresser comment once you take them for a ride in the thing.

Funny too, in nearly 15 years of club life I've only ever met one hair dresser that drove an MR2. Statistically there's probably less hair dressers per MR2 than there are for most other types of car.

That your stainless welding there Dylan? Looks good. You got an exhaust shop or something?

Haha you are right and in my opinion the MR2 is nowhere near hairdresser status... But with my strawberry milkshake turbo this may change.

It was my brother who mentioned it but he also conceded that is will be an amazing car.

The welding is done by BNR Engineering, he just won best engine bay for a 1000+ hp 2JZ drift bmw at the D1 awards and is highly recommended by Steve Murch the turbo Yoda. He isn't the cheapest but his work is top notch.

I am leaving NZ to work in PNG so I'm not even going to drive it when it's done. I believe I will build the engine now and shoot for a higher HP number maybe dual boost 300kW on 98 and water meth, and 500kw on e85 and water meth.

Here is the completed turbo with the heat treated exhaust housing.

Hey all, the build is continuing, however I'm now based in Papua New Guinea for work so will be a bit harder to post images. I'll ask my fabrication guy to take some photos so I can post up later.

If anyone is curious as to what parts I have used for this swap so far, I haven't included pricing however it is a lot including labour.

Installed:
2GR-FE Engine. (60k km)
Gouky Engine Mount.
Gouky Header and collector flanges and gaskets. - No longer needed as going turbo, so will be removed.
Rav4 Engine Loom.
Fidanza Flywheel - 9.5LB.
Exedy clutch Stage 3 Hyper Single Plate (should be ok for my 400whp goal).
57.8" belt (no air conditioning)
E153 with LSD.
Injectors 540cc@3bar. (can be pushed to 80psi and flow 740cc)
Lotus throttle position sensor.
Water Neck Filler.
Fuel Pulse Damper, 20-0177 FPD-XR.
Radium Rails – OEM.
2GR injector O-rings to make the injectors fit the Rails.
CRW Heavy Duty CV Joint Kit.
Link G4+ Fury.
Link Boost Controller.
Link 3 Bar Map Sensor.
MOTEC C125 Full colour dash
DeltaV Rx8 disc kit rear 323mm
XYZ 330mm 6pot front brakes
XYZ coil overs
Vehicle tracking and alarm – immobiliser.
Full Respray – spoiler delete.

To be done:
ARP Head Studs, don’t think they are required at the power levels I’m looking at, will monitor for head lift during tuning.
Spacers for fuel rail.
GT3582 turbo install
Baffles in existing sump and oil return for turbo.
Turbo manifolds and exhaust.
Custom Intake plenum – the plastic one will explode even under low boost.
AEM water meth injection install.
Custom dash to fit the MOTEC into
Full tune for 98 and water meth.
Connect fuel level sensor for Link
Connect gearbox sensor for speed.
Life insurance

Ok so decided to build the engine with at least forged rods and pistons, has anyone had boosted experience with the 2GR? I was thinking of the MWR Rods and Wiseco 9:1 pistons.

There are so few 2GR swapped cars in NZ that it would probably be more worthwhile to look at the bigger countries, the UK and America are the big ones. Also, http://www.twobrutal.co.uk is a forum dedicated to modified MR2's, but you do have to sign up to view all the good stuff.

I think you are right, I will do some forum searching there.

Hey guys, the turbo build is on hold while i figure out if i can return to work. Had a brain tumour removed three weeks ago.

If you wanna see the horror story scar then i can post, they cut 3/4 of my head as large tumour. The big white mass and black area was the problem.

That's not good at all. I hope you get well soon.

My cousin has recently had similar surgery. She called her tumour Harold. Hers was starting to turn cancerous inside so she is now going through chemotherapy which isn't fun but at least she is still her and so are you. My thoughts are with you.
