Re: 1990 SW20 MR2 GT Restoration Project
I'd go with genuine myself as a full seal kit can be had for sub $300 and with what you are doing to the car I think it would be a better option.
Looking good so far.

Grrrrr!
This looked brand new before I took it to Timaru
Looks like I'll have to make templates of the lining and the base board and make new ones.

Re: 1990 SW20 MR2 GT Restoration Project
Does anyone know what this unit does?
I'm guessing it's to control the Fog Light swivel motors? Beause the fog lights used to swivel left and right when I turned the steering wheel but they stopped working just before I took her down to Timaru.
I took it into Ilam Toyota CHCH and all they said is my model doesn't have fog lights that swivel, I said why do they have two electrical connections to each fog light then?
I know they swivel! I saw it for myself when I was trying to figure out what that Japanese writing was on the Fog Light switch when I first purchased the car.
While I'm at it the battery cradle needs a good clean! All done.

Sadly the local Toyota dealer, Ilam and the main dealer in Montreal St, while nice people are quite incompetent.

Re: 1990 SW20 MR2 GT Restoration Project
Most people working at dealers are newish so don't know older cars or how to use the parts catalog. But when you have to learn about ALL Toyotas it's hard to know everything about them. I've owned mine for 9 years now and still learning about just one model of car.
Yes it's the fog light control ECU. There is a steering position sensor in the steering column too but also the switch in the dashboard has 2 modes. Up for fog lights on and down for on and swivel.
Why is there water running down the walls inside the frunk?! I'm very concerned.

Re: 1990 SW20 MR2 GT Restoration Project
Attempting to fix boost leak issues on the Celica today.
It's cold and raining but will be worth it. New pipes going on.
Previous owner just didn't take care of anything on this car.
I'm enjoying working on her though.
All clean!
