The stock ECU on the GEN2 can handle quite a bit more power than stock. 40hp extra is fine.
If it was me doing an OEM look build I'd leave the OEM wiring if it was sound for looks but doing a rewire would be good future proofing as things are getting old. No need to have a quick disconnect at the fire wall. It's very easy to push the stock loom through the fire wall as it's short and easy to access in the boot. But up to you as we all have our own preferences.

OEM head gasket will handle that extra power but if you later want more power without having to open the engine then maybe the other one is better.

There is a bit to do but it's worth learning about and doing yourself. :D

The BGB has a length for them and if the bolts are not outside that spec - 90mm for the inlet and 108mm for the exhaust side of the head - then they can be reused. I've re-used mine a number of times without any issue. When going for extra power I can see the sense in going to studs, but for a standard rebuild there isn't any reason to change them.
Some head bolts are one use, others are not. If they are within spec then they can be used like you are doing. But how many road cars with low power have the head removed all the time like a race car?

Thought's?
Your new engine should have far less but it will still have some. That can looks good but you'd need somewhere for it to drain to? The GEN2 doesn't have anywhere for this except either custom or the turbo oil drain. I do like the idea of using one that looks more OEM rather than some shiny things that doesn't quite fit with your build. I'm keen to hear more about it. For some reason all the text in the PDF link is a bunch of numbers and symbols so I can't read any of it.

Yes I would have to tap the drain back into somewhere either oil sump or like you mentioned the oil return line from turbo.
That's a shame about the PDF.... not sure why it would do that?? The link seems to work fine using Microsoft Edge Browser.
Heaps of good info about each product including full mesurment diagrams and power vs PVC flow so you can get the right one for your needs, very interesting stuf as well as bar graphs.

Yes I too love the stock look of these and been watching and reading reviews, they certainly work very well!

And yes the wiring does concern me a little because of the age of the vehicle, all the audio wire was corroded and cracking so had all of it fitted with new wire.

Did the SW20 come with a wheel cover? I've never seen one, not even in the dealer brochure.

Apparently some versions did, this cover was out of a NZ New SW20. It even had the Toyota badge on the boot lid and had the T-Bar covers, they looked brand new.

Would love to get a hold of the tool carrier that sits along the inside front edge of the frunk.

Try amayama, megazip, lithia and then resort to googling the part numbers

I've been going through Toyota directly for the parts.

So it's been a while since I last posted..... I've bought a few tools since and have started cleaning and sorting quite a few things.

I bought a Blasting Cabinet (with inline water filter and all the blasting media/gun/nozzles etc) a couple of months ago and also a parts washer.
20180304_135621.jpg
I have sent the gearbox casings down to Timaru to get them Vapour Blasted as well as a few other parts. All of the engine bolts and small mounts/stays etc. I have started to clean in the parts washer. I think around 150-200 bolts/nuts! My back is taking a pounding bending over my newly installed bench/shelving unit which is also what I've been doing.

I'm about half way through cleaning the bolts about 8 hours of cleaning maybe more so far.I have sorted all the bolts that are meant for certain parts into snap lock bags and have labelled them correctly for those parts, not many of the bags were labled and a lot of the bolts were just loose, so it has taken a few hours going back and forth from the workshop manual looking at what the parts and bolts are for them and labelled them correctly on the new bags.

20180310_125055.jpg
All the bolts and nuts will be media blasted to clean off all the rust and hard gunk that couldn't be removed in the part's washer. After that they will be plated.

So that's what's been happening over the last couple months.
