Short shifter sorted (thanks Rocco26) and good idea about just telling Toyota I'm a member (although probably won't work if i turn up in the Skoda?)
Also thanks for the membership update mickeyduck - be good to get the MR2 rego holder I ordered, currently the one i have is surviving on tape and luck!
As for the weekend, have performed a <ahem> bit of a ghetto fix for now - works really well though!!

A mate of mine used to do that with his steering wheel (looked a bit funny walking around town) but the gearshift knob is a LOT more compact.

So put in the short shift yesterday - and its ummm... really really short! And i mean the height of it, will try it for a bit but might end up taking the coloured drop plate back out later for comparison. Cleaned all the swarf and crap away (suspect the previous hacksaw cut job was done in place ) while i had everything out, and gave the plate a quick spray of paint to keep it all looking tidy.

The shift boot I had sorted out is about a million times too big so need to have another think about that now!! Any suggestions? Was looking at -
