I replaced both Clevis pin and bush - didn't lubricate though. Will try that!Benckj wrote:Replacing clevis pin won't solve the noise problem if bush is not replaced and lubricated. The Billet clevis mod replaced bush with roller bearing.

Re: Levi's 1996 GT-S
Got a bit busy last weekend and installed my Berk 3" downpipe.
Next on my list is to pressure test and install my ARC intercooler that I got with the Mr2, as well as an intercooler sprayer to keep it slightly cooler. On my soon-to-purchase list is a Wideband and a boost controller. Then dyno to see what sort of numbers the car is making currently.
Far goals: An ems. I want to keep the car as clean as possible, but squeeze a bit more power out of the gen 3 3sgte. We will see what happens!
The old Downpipe still in car
Cat out of car - is a seriously heavy thing.
New Downpipe in car
I resprayed the heatshield in high heat silver. I need to do the same treatment to my rocker cover.
All in all the downpipe was a pain in the ass to do, but there is a nicer deep tone at idle and it is a bit louder at higher rpm. Boost spool is definitely improved with spool coming wayyyy down in second and third compared to stock. I haven't had a chance to highway test at the moment, I'm interested to see whether it drones at all. Good work, coming along nicely. Did you manage to replace HFH and HFHOE okay?

I didn't replace those hoses actually, but in hindsight should've put them on my list at the same time. They will definitely be on the to-do sometime this year.Benckj wrote:Good work, coming along nicely. Did you manage to replace HFH and HFHOE okay?

Shiny shiny.
Did you check the flanges to ensure they were flat before installing it?
I assume you used an OEM gasket on the back of the turbo? Nothing else really works in that position in an exhaust system.

Cheers! I'm just trying to keep the car as clean as possible, while adding some goodies to it at the same time.MoNk wrote:Looking good mate, well done .
The Flanges were pretty flat on mine, which i'm pretty happy about. Heard about the quality control on some of the flanges via internet. Downpipe has the oem turbine gasket and the Berk b pipe gasket on the bottom side. No exhaust leaks from what I can hear, but will do a smoke test to double check for any little ones soon enough.GDII wrote:Shiny shiny.

Normally. you would do these hoses at same time as getting access is very difficult with DP in the way. At least having the Berk installed it is easy to remove where the stock system is near impossible. Not the sort of problem you want to have on the side of the road.I didn't replace those hoses actually, but in hindsight should've put them on my list at the same time. They will definitely be on the to-do sometime this year.
Remember to get all the parts ahead of time including the large O ring for oil cooler. Common fail point if re-using.

Only recently installed the Berk myself. I noticed the car sounds way throatier than before. It's good!

Re: Levi's 1996 GT-S
It definitely does sound quite nice for a 4 cyl. I have a full exhaust now - Berk dp to tanabe b pipe and trd mufflers. No cats and no worries.DravidDavid wrote:Only recently installed the Berk myself. I noticed the car sounds way throatier than before. It's good!
On another note, I repainted the heatshield, hot pipe, hot pipe bracket, and cold pipe with High Heat Silver. Really cleans up the look. Need to do the valve cover, toms strut bar and replace a few misc. bolts with nicer ones.
Here's a before and after for comparison.

That's a huge improvement! Especially the turbo heat shield.

That's why I kept spraying and spraying. It gets addicting!GDII wrote:That's a huge improvement! Especially the turbo heat shield.
I need to order some gaskets and some RTV or whatever is suitable for the Valve Cover and then get to work.
A bolt dress up kit would be nice but I can't really find any for the gen 3.

Looks good but does it just sit in the garage for photos or do you drive it on upcoming runs? Apparently we have mutual friends

You need to order a few gaskets for the valve cover and uses some RTV for the corners where the BGB tells you to. Mostly where the cams and distributor have the sharp corners as it loops over them.4CylinderSpecial wrote:That's why I kept spraying and spraying. The GEN 3 doesn't really need dress up bolts. The reason the GEN2 has them is due to the horrible phillips head screws Toyota used which make it very hard to do up. Maybe just find some bolts you like and match the lengths of them. Don't use black oxide cap screws as they rust easy, find something better.
