Levi's 1996 GT-S

After months of looking around for a later gen turbo, I finally found one. Jonathan aka MoNK had been thinking of selling for a while so I took the plunge (and the flight) down to Christchurch to buy it. 1000km later and it is in its new home in Auckland! The car is quite clean, and I'm glad that I waited for one like this to pop up. The car is fairly stock bar a tanabe b pipe, trd exhaust mufflers, toms front and rear strut bars and a trd air filter. I also received an ARC intercooler that I'll test and install eventually.

I was quite focussed on not getting the car too wet on the drive up so I don't have too many pictures yet.

Stock wheels with toyo something-or-rathers, they have great wet and dry grip, which is helped by the factory LSD.
My TRD springs will be going on this car, more for handling purposes rather than dropping the car (car is low enough already with the later springs).

Pretty clean. Has 156xxx km on it at the moment. I'll be giving it a full detail this weekend (claybar etc included) so it'll end up being even better.

Very nice. Guess it must be a gen 3 transplant as interior looks to be pre 96.

Chassis says it's a 05/96 so still technically a gen 3, not a 4 which was 07?/96 i believe. So missed out on some of the gen 4 stuff by a few months.

Of course. Thought they introduced airbags and fender side lights during the late gen 3 era. The seat material looks like the gen 4 although yours must be a GTS model rather than GT.

I think they were still an option till then, or maybe it was a late gen 3 GT option? This car is indeed a GT-S so that could explain that.

A GT-S could be optioned to be exactly the same as a GT if the person ordering one new wanted it to be that way. Not sure what the cost difference would have been to just pick GT vs a fully optioned GT-S.
Toyota changed the fenders on the first car produced in 96/06 to have the relocated indicator. You missed out by 136 chassis'!

Good pick on getting this GEN 3. Should be a good runner.

Thanks for that Phil. I was always under the impression that the GT was mostly things like leather seats etc — and dual climate control if I'm not mistaken?
I believe this car will be good to me, and I'll certainly be good to it. The car came with receipts dating back to 2004, so I'm very happy with the condition of it for sure.

:)

Car is pretty much original bar the mods mentioned.

G-TS could be as 'limited' as you wanted. Seats are original Gen3 seats, same as other Gen3s I have owned/driven. This seat material is present on Gen4s also - then the seat material changed at Gen5 (leather an option all the way through).
Lack of Airbags is also an option, exactly the same wheel as my previous Gen3. Gen4s seem to all have the airbag wheel from what I have seen.
Door panel indicators are gen4. Gen3 has the side marker. I did a side marker delete.

Looking forward to seeing it on a run, Levi. 8)

One question (yeah I might be making a muppet of myself here but I'm puzzled)
Why does it look like it has two gear shift levers, one next to the other, one shorter than the other... Did you just sit another gear lever knob next to the real deal for comparison or something?

It's a Hi and Lo selector obviously Charlie :D

I'm looking forwards to some runs in this beastie!

Here's some products I bought for the car, Should be some good results judging from what I've done so far!

I've noticed that all my pictures are sideways - I don't think the board likes vertical images very much! Sorry about that!
