Thanks Allan. The bellhousing that I got to play around with, has the bit just ground off with a grinder I think. I was going to look at all the options tomorrow and see how it goes. Failing everything, I will just chuck it on the milling machine and do a "neat" job :D :D :D

Got the paint on the car today as well. I will put up some pictures once we get it out of the booth tomorrow, it is looking awesome

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this beast turns out. 8)

I only have one comment to make: be sure to over-engineer everything.

Thanks Charlie, aligned 100% on that. Just taking my time and trying to make it as clean as down to the last nut and bolt. I am trying to get the missus to let me spend some money on the MWR Stage 2 cams and full rings pistons and bearings set so that we can rebuild the engine as well and maybe a smaller pulley to increase the charger boost a little bit. So far no luck, but I might buy the parts then ask for forgiveness :D :D :D

Have paint on the body and will put up some pictures later once we have it out of the booth

GETTING READY FOR PAINTING BY LEVI & DANNY

Post by lasersooby »

Finally, we have paint on the outside of the car. It has been an incredible journey to get to this point. Lots of ups and downs but once I managed to hook up with Danny, he was as enthusiastic as I was in getting to this point. He has done an incredible job with Levi and the quality of the work that has been delivered is a testament to their skills, drive and seeing the vision that I wanted. Here are some pictures of where it is now, should have the body back home before Christmas (bit of cutting and polishing is now required before I get this to the house) then the other fun stuff starts :D :D :D

Thanks Shaun. I should have it home by next Saturday, just in time for the short break I am having. Will start re-installing the wiring ect throughout the car and run the brake and clutch lines etc. The bonnet, snorkels and engine cover is getting done either today or early next week. You'll have to come over to the house once it's her, bring your MR2 when you do :D

SPEEDO GEAR

Post by lasersooby »

For anyone that is contemplating on running an EA6X box with a 2GR re-power, this is the speedo gear that will need to be fitted to the diff as these gearboxes do not come with a seepdo gear. This gear will help you run your exisitng wiring and the gauge cluster.
It is a Toyota Part and can be bought from amayama.com for NZ$49.25. Megazip.net is more expensive at around US$40.00
This gear will work with the NA speed sensor

Thanks mate, it has been a slow process but the vision I have for this build, I want to make it happen no matter how long it takes. Lots of advice and support from a number of members have helped consolidate the plans.
Take care, stay safe and enjoy the time with family and friends over the holidays mate.

MOUNTING THE MODIFIED BELLHOUSING & STARTER ONTO THE ENGINE

Post by lasersooby »

So, decided to get onto mating the modified bellhousing on to the actual supercharged engine. It had got to the point where all the measuring and adjustments etc seemed to have been exhausted but you just never know. Any questions, just ask and happy to share the bolt size information for the match ups so far :D

I got the dowel pins sorted, measured and re-measured to make sure they would fit as getting this aligned was one of the main challenges
2019Dec22-Pix3.jpg
2019Dec22-Pix1.jpg
After a lot of wriggling, swearing, removing the housing several times to re-measure the pins and alignment, then using a bit of wood and a hammer, managed to get the bellhousing on the engine (apologies for the crappy pix). I had managed to get the bellhousing onto the spare engine without the dowel pins.

Using some bolts (various lengths with shanks and without, thread pitch 1.25) purchased through Boltholder NZ - Matamata, I managed to get 5 out of the 6 bolts (3 x 12mm and 3 x 10mm) in. I need to increase the diameter of one of the holes for the 12mm bolt to get through in the bellhousing.

The next mission was the get the starter motor mounted onto the transplanted starter hub. The bellhousing needed a bit of relieving and also had to remove a bit of excess housing material to get it to sit properly into the slot.

Starter motor is in place and everything looks mint as. Have to do a full re-build of the starter motor before it goes back in. The key thing now is to re-build the gearbox with the new parts that I got for the next stage of the project

FULLY PAINTED BODY RETURNS HOME

Post by lasersooby »

The car is finally home and Danny and Levi dropped it off late this afternoon. Looks pretty good. Danny has indicated that he will do a final cutting and polishing once all the parts are back on the car and it is up and running. The rebuilding or jigsaw puzzle will begin I hope tomorrow :D
Have to get the appropriate tap and die set to clean up the threads so that the install process goes without any hitches

JIGSAW PUZZLE TO PUT TOGETHER

Post by lasersooby »

Hell yeah mate. The most exciting part about this is I will finally start getting rid of boxes and boxes of parts that I have accumulated for the build and this should keep the wife happy. You know the saying, Happy wife, happy life :D

PREPARING PARTS FOR INSTALL

Post by lasersooby »

Been itching to get to this again, but had do to a few chores for the missus otherwise I would end up in big trouble. Got a very light weight cover to go over the car to stop the dust from building on the new paint work

Got the manuals out to make sure that everything was being done according to plan. Using the donor car also to ensure that the parts get installed like they should be and also using http://www.amayama.com/en and http://www.megazip.net for finer details as they have a much more expanded and detailed view of the setup on the car
2019Dec29-Pix3.jpg
First things to go back in will be all the pipes (AC, coolant and brake lines) before I work on the petrol tank. The brake lines are all wrapped up in the package in black plastic (left of pix) and these are from 1999 UK Rev 5 MR2. I bought a Rev 5 in UK and had it totally stripped out for the parts that I wanted and shipped to NZ. Used parts in UK are priced very reasonable compared to NZ even with the shipping. All the parts are a bit grubby so tomorrow, will get everything cleaned up.
2019Dec29-Pix4.jpg
A question to the Team here, how would go about cleaning the inside of the coolant pipes? There seems to be a bit of rust particles coming out of the coolant pipes. i was thinking of using one of those drain cleaning contraptions (like the snake thingy) with the brush attached to it to scour the inside then chuck in some rust dissolver before mounting the pipes back on to the car
