Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Managed to get a bit of work done over the weekend transferring the manual gear shifter assembly from my donor car into the project car. It was pretty dirty and greasy, needed a bit of patience in cleaning then the reassembly requires a bit grease applied to the parts as well.
These pictures show the grubby parts in the donor car Dis-assembly of the unit Thought I might as well install the short shift kit since I was sorting this out Applied a bit of rust dissolver to the base plate Base plate painted and ready for the re-assembly Installing shift lever bush More parts assembly and more grease Short Shift lever assembly Final assembly The project car originally an auto Finished selector mounted in place I will install the solid bushes when I get closer to adding the selector cables which have to be modified because I will be running the 6-speed gearbox

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Just beware of that shifter. Looks like one of the cheapies I've had. If so the shifter fouls on the cable when you shift along to 1 & 2 and the ball on the bottom of the shifter has a Allen grub screw holding it to the shifter upright which continually comes loose and makes the whole shifter flop around. Hopefully this is not the case with yours? But just thought I should warn you Incase...

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Hi Paul, thanks very much for the heads up mate.
I have also been warned by Phil as well, looks like an alternative plan coming through, maybe a Racer-X or Hux Racing setup . Just have to see how I approach this with the missus.
Looks like this setup will foul with the reverse lockout for the 6-speed as well. I will leave it there for the time being and have a question mark over this and revisit once we get close to finishing it off. The cable has to be modified for the 6 speed as well which will mean that I will not be able to use this most likely as well. Good sinker for the fishing line in Manawatu River or Foxton Beach then
Thanks again and chat soon

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
I've still got one in one of my cars, I made it work. Grinded the shifter upright for clearance. And JB weld in the grub screw. So far so good. But not the best. Looking at your build you may want to invest in a better quality option, as you mentioned. But thought I would add that. BTW the short shifter with the drop down plate is super low! Maybe too low? (I thought so anyway) I didn't use the plate. My AW has a stock shifter cut down with a clamp on knob (previous owner) but that works well. I have a late model OEM one for it I'll put in later on. That's another option if you can find one.

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Thanks Paul, appreciate this heads up. The short shifter I installed did not have a grub screw at the bottom and I have tried moving it around as it sits in the car now and everything that you and Phil have said is actually there and it has me worried because the levers actually crash against each other. When I tried after installing it, I thought meh, just because the cables are not attached, that was the reason for the mechanism not working properly.Mr-Paulio wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:49 pmI've still got one in one of my cars, I made it work. Back to the drawing board and will start thinking about the options seriously . I will have a chat with Paul (Woodsport) as he is providing the conversion kit for the EA60 box that I am going to be running and see what he thinks would be the better one of the 2 (Racer-X and Hux racing) units to purchase.
I said to Phil just recently that I had never driven an MR2 before I decided to take this project on and all the feedback and guidance from all of you on this Site has been incredible and is helping with this build.
Before I forget, I love the "Black Rat" setup that you have got going as well.
Take care stay safe and chat soon and once again thanks for the advice and guidance on this.

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Good day today weather wise, decided to install the radiator with the new fan shroud and condensor etc.
The Team at BT Welding and Fabrication - Palmerston North (021 682 679) did a great job in making an aluminium shroud and mount the cooling fans on to the shroud as well. Great Team and I recommend them to anyone looking for any welding and fabrication work. Received the package couple of days ago Test fitted the radiator with the fan & shroud still on it
Back to business in getting the radiator in properly, had to remove the shroud to move it around a bit so that I could get the outlets to align to get the hoses in properly Radiator install, new bushings, silicon hoses and SS T-Bolt clamps Fitting the shroud and fan AC Condensor install Radiator Support brackets in place Upper radiator support assembly sorted, bolted in place and the hood latch sorted as well

First to the Admin please delete if this is not acceptable.
Just wanted to share with you another Toyota unfortunately not an MR2, but still a Toyota which we picked up from Manawatu Toyota yesterday. This has been one long SUV in the making. We ordered this in June 2019 and due to the waiting period on some RAV models then COVID-19, we finally got it off the showroom. The wife is very happy now and hopefully she will leave me alone when I spend a few more dollars on the MR2
This is the TRD Street Monster RAV4 E-Four Limited Hybrid and it is an absolute blast to drive and the TRD bits make this really good.
This was taken in the showroom yesterday: Took these pictures this morning, weather turned out pretty good, but turned to custard in the afternoon:

Yep, down in the low 6 litres per 100km.
Remembering it doesn't get driven economically when I'm driving it and it has 170kw that I like to use!

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Hi Team, it has been a while since I uploaded any information on the build. Have been lacking a bit of motivation as I had a few other priorities to attend to. Here is the build and install of the AC Evaporator unit:
Bought the Evaporator unit out of the US as I could not get anything locally, Australia nor Japan: Comparison old versus new: Cleaned up the excess glue on the inside of the Evaporator Housing: Purchased O-Rings from Saeco for the AC system, sizes listed on the packs for anyone that wants to renew the O-Rings on the AC on their car: Starting Assembly (abridged version): Cleaning Matrix and assembly of the TX valve: More assembly work: Installed in car: AC Temp Sensor cleaned and installed on Condensor: Drier ready for installation:

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
thanks mate. That is the result I am hoping for.
The slow go mode is definitely helping as I do not want this to become a chore. Going at a pace that suits me and I do things only when I want to is providing the satisfaction in getting this good outcome.
I have had lots of feedback via PMs and it has been of great value.
Once I have the gauge cluster swap done, will put up the write for that and for this, I want to thank Phil - GDII in advance for all the nutting out of the differences between the electronic cluster wiring out of UK vs the Japanese cluster (wiring all in Japanese )
Thanks again and hopefully will have a few more things to upload over the next couple of weeks.

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Looking great. What expansion valve did you go with to fit the US evaporator core? I had to machine out my valve and make some minor modifications to get the LHD evaporator to fit in the RHD housing.
