Wash the pipes out with water , maybe attach a water blaster or just use a hose from the house.
no need to get carried away with scrubbing the inside or using a anty rust treatment , pipes will be low grade stainless steel
you my cause more damage than good .

Thanks Colin, appreciate the feedback. Will post on the outcome as per your recommendation as that seems to be the most common option for cleaning the pipes up

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
I’m no expert but if it were me I would Tape off the ends of the pipes, and fill 1/3rd with some water and some abrasives, small stones should work like road chip maybe (big enough that they won’t get lodged in any small spots if any) to break off any deposits inside. Dance around for a bit shaking it for a while. Use a rag as a pull through like cleaning a rifle barrel a few times and rinse excessively with water. At least that’s how I would do it. Saw I guy do it to a gas tank and had it strapped to a rotating wheel on a slow revolution and worked fantastic, a bit like how you clean a concrete mixer.lasersooby wrote:Been itching to get to this again, but had do to a few chores for the missus otherwise I would end up in big trouble. Got a very light weight cover to go over the car to stop the dust from building on the new paint work

Got the manuals out to make sure that everything was being done according to plan. Using the donor car also to ensure that the parts get installed like they should be and also using http://www.amayama.com/en and http://www.megazip.net for finer details as they have a much more expanded and detailed view of the setup on the car

First things to go back in will be all the pipes (AC, coolant and brake lines) before I work on the petrol tank. The brake lines are all wrapped up in the package in black plastic (left of pix) and these are from 1999 UK Rev 5 MR2. I bought a Rev 5 in UK and had it totally stripped out for the parts that I wanted and shipped to NZ. Used parts in UK are priced very reasonable compared to NZ even with the shipping. All the parts are a bit grubby so tomorrow, will get everything cleaned up.

A question to the Team here, how would go about cleaning the inside of the coolant pipes? There seems to be a bit of rust particles coming out of the coolant pipes. i was thinking of using one of those drain cleaning contraptions (like the snake thingy) with the brush attached to it to scour the inside then chuck in some rust dissolver before mounting the pipes back on to the car

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Bloody brilliant Shaun, that sounds like a good plan. I have got some ceramic pebbles that I will use for that purpose. There is a CRC cleaner/rust disolver that converts rust into a black hard coating that could be an option but don't want anything that may flake off later especially with the new alloy radiator going in and a clean engine block.
The weather has been crap our way and have not been able to get to cleaning the pipes up but I see tomorrows prediction is supposed to be fine weather, I should be able to get this sorted tomorrow or make a start

Sweet let me know how it goes if you do it, I’m going to do it to my gas tank when I eventually need to drop it before I seal it.lasersooby wrote:Bloody brilliant Shaun, that sounds like a good plan. RAISING BODY ON THE CRADLE TO MAKE WORKING UNDERNEATH EASIER
Getting prepped for he install, decided to raise the car body 300mm in height so that it makes life a lot easier when moving things underneath and have a lot more room to move arms and tools around. Cut some galvanised pipe to the required lengths then cut slots into it so that the seam sits nicely in the "risers". Looking good and hopefully I can get a few more things done and updated tomorrow

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Got back on to the car today and managed to get a few things done in the Frunk.
Body clips arrived yesterday, not a bad package for the price. Managed to get the coolant and AC pipes cleaned up, thanks for the heads up Shaun and Colin, needs a little bit more work to clean the inside of the pipes up a bit more (will use some ceramic cones for this) The old hoses attached to the coolant pipe did not come off cleanly, so had to have that addressed, came up really clean Removed the Frunk Weatherstrip from my donor car and had to clean it up as it had years of dirt and grime built up in some places. A lot of patience during the scrubbing process, then using rag soaked in hot water to wipe the weatherstrip down before applying CRC Silicon to rejuvenate the whole thing. It has come up really good Chucked in plastic as a cover inside the Frunk to avoid the new paint getting damaged during the installs The rejuvenated weatherstrip now in place The wiring mess out on the floor for sorting before install To stop the paint getting damaged/scratched, I wrapped the whole thing in bubblewrap The wiring snake begins its journey The main loom in the Frunk bolted in place Got other wiring in the Frunk through to their respective locations Right hand side earth bolted in place Fuse Box in place End of today's efforts

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Hi Michael, yeah man that is the scary part. I have a mostly assembled donor car in the driveway that is also helping as I checked that several times to ensure that I have got it the way it is meant to be.
Couple of challenges ahead; my project car was not set up with either ABS or power steering and I am thinking of including this in the build as I have all of the parts for both.
For the power steering set up, I just need to make up couple of templates to cut the holes out for the power steering pump and the fluid reservoir and I reckon it will be good to go.
Slow and steady should get this baby back on the road

Make sure you check the heater pipe brackets for cracking. The ones near the back of the fuel tank tend to crack and leak at the join. Amazing work putting this all back together.

I'll be referring to your thread for the wiring and pump upgrade for the fuel tank, you have done an awesome job there as well mate. Hopefully we can catch up again soon.
To the Administrators, please let me know if you do not agree with anything that I have in the build thread or would like to see the set up a bit differently and we can chat as I do not want to get offside with you guys
