Wow, this is way faster than it took to build my car, mine took four months and I didn't even do paint.

LOL, I reckon it will definitely be longer than 4months mate. Have 3 daughters that I have to run around after, busy blinking work to look after and the General Manager for Home Affairs keeping a tight rein on the expenditure will all conspire to the slow build time :D

STRIPPING DONOR CAR

Post by lasersooby »

Started dismantling the "Donor" car as I needed both front guards and the front bumper. Was a mission to get the foggies off, well one side was blinking difficult, had to drill both the heads off the screw to enable me to remove it. It is looking good though as everything came off nicely. I am hoping to remove the main crash panel in the front as well and get that bead blasted then painted before transplanting onto the project body. Don't mind the cobweb as its been sitting outside

Those fog light bolts are a right pain to remove. Best to just drill out and sort out bracket once you have a clear space to work with. Last time I did a set when re-installing I used a galvenised Tex screw with hex head to mount. Worked a treat as the bracket threads were destroyed during removal.

What kind of drill bit did you use to drill out the bolts? :)

EXTENDED DRILL BIT for RUSTED FOG LAMP SCREWS

Post by lasersooby »

It's a real pain to get anything decent in there due to space between the light surround and the bumper and also the depth where the screw is located does not allow normal drill bit to be used. I ended up using a 7mm bit and welded that onto a 5.5mm round rod and used this in my drill to get to the screw head. Have attached a pix of the "long series" bit :D that I made up

FITTING GUARDS EX-DONOR CAR & BONNET MODS FOR VENTED INSERT

Post by lasersooby »

Got some work done today with Ross (the weather was really bad driving to Norsewood and return to Palmy - very heavy cross winds & so much rain that you couldn't see anything more than 5meters in front of you in some places), install of the RH Front Guard, the crash bar across the front and panels behind the bumper then just put the bumper on to see how it looked before removing and getting everything prepped for bead blasting and coating. Also started the modifying of the bonnet to insert the vented bonnet piece

AIMING TO BUILD BODY SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS

Post by lasersooby »

I am hoping the finished car will look like this with the exception of the bonnet and the rear spoiler as I have a vented bonnet insert going in and a replica TRD 3000 spoiler. The body kit (without spoiler) on this car is what I have already bought to go onto my one. Have to find out about the wheels (have been told that they are 18" with 9.5" wide fronts and 10.5" wide rears) as I really like them. The wing mirrors will be different as well, have ones with indicator lights in them, will put pictures of these put later
