Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
A bit more work on the car. The main one was to change over the power steering system from my donor car and we removed the complete front panel from the Frunk as well as cutting the cross member up to remove all the mounting points to transplant into the project car.
This work was done by BT Engineering, made of Brian who is the MD, Gavin (Brian's brother) and Dylan the 3rd Engineer. We talked about doing the work at home but a bit of common sense prevailed (yep, health and safety including fire concerns) and Gavin and Dylan picked the car up and took it to their Workshop which is located at 46B Bennett Street, Cloverlea, Palmerston North - business name is BT Welding and Fabrication. Check out their website:
https://btweld.co.nz/
This is the floor in the Frunk in the door car This is the car at BT Welding and Fabrication Workshop While the car was there, I got the Team to weld in the Swaybar Reinforcing Plates that Phill GDII had supplied earlier. The left hand side frame had a few hair line cracks which was sorted and welded prior to the welding of the reinforcing plate. The right hand side was a mess because it seems that that had some work done to it prior to me purchasing the car. Gavin un-stitched the bottom plate and cleaned it all up before welding the new reinforcing plate in and also reinforced the sides as well. Ugly but brilliant job to get the crap sorted. Need to get the exposed places primered and painted again Started on getting the ABS system installed in the Frunk including the brake lines and connecting some of the wiring into the system. Cleaned up the mounting brackets then painted them and also installed a riv-nut for one of the bracket mounts.

Those plates will never have issues again. Very well welded in.

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Hi Phil, sorry man I screwed up. The sentence does not make sense and I know what is missing , it should have said "that Phill - GD11 had supplied", sorry mate. The guys were bloody impressed with the plates mate and yeah they have done a very good job.
This is the kind of screw up that happens when you are adding to the thread with commentary, uploading pictures, watching F1 season 2 on Netflix and cooking dinner as well
Thanks for the plates mate, they are finally on the car

All good, you can tweak it with an edit.
I'm impressed with the welding around it. My brother who made them liked it too. I can only take credit for the design.

Fixed , really solid part mate, you and your brother should think about putting this out there for the MR2 enthusiasts as well. Please pass on my thanks to your brother as wellGDII wrote:All good, you can tweak it with an edit.

Thanks Paul, appreciate the comments. Sometimes I do wonder if I am uploading too many pictures, hope it inspires others as well. Do you still have the plastic liners that goes on the doors? Both of mine are munted and I am looking at getting either a reasonably good and using that or getting something that is good enough to cut another one from some heavy grade plastic. Let me know and we can do a dealMr-Paulio wrote:Just because I don't think anyone says it enough.... But they are sitting there watching and enjoying regardless.... We are all loving this. Unfortunately we aren't able to make any more. The design needs a slight tweak for REV2-5 cars anyway.lasersooby wrote:Fixed , really solid part mate, you and your brother should think about putting this out there for the MR2 enthusiasts as well. Passenger side seems okay. I think drivers side has been ripped or cut previously. More than happy for you to just come take them if they are usable for you?

Looking great mo, it’s so nice to see your taking your time and not missing any details on the refirb, I have no doubt this will be the cleanest modified mr2 in the country once done.

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Thanks Shaun, it is becoming a bit of labor of love now and I hope the end result is going to be great. Once this is on the road, we will have to swap cars to see how the different V6s perform in the SW20 chassis. Targeting the end of this year to have this on the road, the hold up will be the W2A intercooler that I am thinking of building/installing to get the charge temperature down for the additional power. We will see, if this becomes too hard or costly then I will just leave it as/

Sounds interesting, could you not run a water injection? With a tank in the boot?lasersooby wrote:Thanks Shaun, it is becoming a bit of labor of love now and I hope the end result is going to be great. Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
That is a very interesting option, will look into that as well. Maybe a lot better than trying to install an W2A intercooler.
Thanks mate

Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project
Managed to get a few more things done today.
Ran the brake and clutch lines from the front to the back. This car was an auto, so no clutch line to start off with but my parts purchases secured a complete setup. Ran the vacuum line for the braking system The wiring loom in the cabin against the firewall was set up originally like this (picture from from donor parts car) The new loom has this clever arrangement but no mounting points on my Revision 1 body. Used a couple of Rive-nuts for this and it works as it clears everything that is going to be mounted in this area. Loosely mounted some inside cabin sensors Already prepared the welded areas for my power steering transplant with rust dissolver (it did not have any but just thought I would do it anyway) which also is protecting the metal. I am going to be using this sound proofing paint to paint over this area under the car. Will post of the prepared area and the final paint with this sound proofing material next week
