Sw20 Build

Post by Mrman »

Hi all im new to the forum but this is my third mr2. Im currently doing this one up to put in a 1mz-fe and currently im collecting all the bits i need.

This is the car as i bought it, its a 1992 Manual Sw20 G-ltd
IMG_5025.JPG
I decided that i would but this not only as i love mr2's but also to learn some new skills along the way.......so this happened....

IMG_5297 (1).JPG

And all back together after a buff up

Then it got treated to some new wheels
IMG_5426 (1).JPG
The next stage to my project was to find a donor car for a 1mz-fe, this is what i found, its a 1997 toyota windom

Before

After

I pulled both heads off the engine and replaced the head gaskets and all the gaskets in between as this engine definitely needed new rocker cover gaskets.
There was also a fair amount of sludge about so it got the diesel/ kerosene treatment while i was taking everything apart.

IMG_5619.JPG
The rocker covers and top of the engine got treated to a fresh coat of VHT wrinkle coat and loosely assembled
IMG_5614.JPG
All back together and im just waiting on a gates timing belt kit to arrive from the states, Im almost ready!!!

Damn that wrinkle coat looks amazing!! Really like the black top paint job too. Kind of reminds me of the 180sx style

Looking good. The black roof and mirrors is a bit different for the older cars.

Yeah I wanted to blend the black sections of the t top roof in with the car better and I saw another one online with the black roof.

So did you paint the engine to match the car or is just good luck rather than good management? :D :?

It was a bit of a happy accident I have always liked the red rocker covers on type r Honda engines but I didn't want everything red as it would look tacky. The engine didn't really excite me in the stock finish.

That should go reasonably well with the 1MZ, you have picked the highest output one of the lot with 210hp. Good budget set and forget build.

I'm really itching to get it in and going all. I'm very interested to see how it goes compared to a
Rev1 turbo I used to own.
