Took it to Phil over the weekend just been, he took the dash apart and found the speedo cable had simply come loose from the cluster. We thought this would be the problem as last time he took it apart to fix the tacho, the cable was extremely easy to take out. So we've simply plugged it back in - we at least know for sure it's why the speedo drops off, and if it happens again we can then work on a permanent solution.
While we were in there we swapped out the headunit and din piece (I helped, I swapped them on the brackets, me so good with nothing
) - then found the rear speakers weren't working (they weren't before either but I didn't even pay attention). Pulled the back pieces off to expose them, they weren't even plugged in. Plugged the left side in and then it short circuited for a moment, the tweeter brackets for the small speakers were being used to hold additional speakers. Phil attempted a fix with electrical tape but then the speakers sounded distorted, so we've unplugged them again. Something to look at later if can be botheredHe also showed me how to clean a windscreen properly (as I couldn't seem to do it without leaving smudges all over). Basically it's a case of going over it with a cloth that's been wet with cleaning product, then going over it again with a drier part of the cloth, then using another cloth that's very dry. He also applied some CarPro Hydro2 Lite on the outside, makes the water bead off in the rain, was an easy drive home even with the rain!
All in all, appreciate the help Phil gives me as he loves to learn and do work to cars, there are things I won't attempt at all due to my computer hands or because in the past I've mucked it up big time. He is also a pro at putting the dash to pieces, I look away and most of it has been removed (cleanly too, no breaks!)
