Wedgie
Hi all,
New to this so bare with me!
I bought Wedgie about a year ago. It had apparently been stored but certainly was showing his age. This is my third MR2. Previously, I've owned an 86 auto (yuk) and a 92 NA manual.
Here are some pictures of rust that you just can't see when you buy one of these!

Re: Wedgie
I crushed mine when I found rust like that. If you roll it it may well kill you. Plus the pillars are an integral part of the structural integrity of the car, particularly being a tin-top (T-tops have extra reinforcing lower in the chassis). If you aren't going to crush it be sure to weld in some decent steel.
Peel off all the plastics and rubbers and look underneath. Take a look at my crusher for some clues: http://mr2.org.nz/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1

Re: Wedgie
Thanks for the advice!! I can see that it could potentially alter the strength and structure of the roof. I did exactly that: pulled out the windows and trim etc. Then took it to the professionals for an assessment. They cut the rust and welded in panels as well as painting the roof. Just got it back yesterday. I know there has been some repairs done just before I bought him so I'll be removing the front panels and making sure they were done properly. I'm determined he'll live - and me too!

Re: Wedgie
Blue Tops' out and getting a birthday. The previous muppets that "rebuilt" it put the rod caps on backwards!!! and gave the bore a scuff with some sandpaper. When I bought it, there was no antifreeze in the cooling system so I've had a fun time cleaning all of the pipes free of rust as well as replacing the radiator.

Re: Wedgie
90% complete!! Just a few little touch ups to the paint and the decal set to go. I haven't refurbished the wheels yet. Will wait to get hold of another set one day.
Very happy to be finally on the road
