the "MR2GUY"

Post by MR2GUY »

Well I've been a member of the MR2OC for a while now and thought I'd finally post up a thread on my AW11.

I purchased this back in 2014 when it was still a baby with only 86,000kms on the clock.
Managed to break my motor last year and have rebuilt it with a freshly machined block, new standard size pistons and rings, all new seals and gaskets etc

Mods so far:

wheels - Lenso KZA 15x8 gold
Whiteline adjustable sway bars front and rear
SW20 short shift kit
Overboost crank pulley
Magnaflow 2.5inch straight through stainless twin pipe muffler
Reacro Fishnet seats

The Idea is to keep the mods minimal and still have a good example of a factory styled AW11

Cheers guys,
over the next month I will be working on getting my engine bay up to a decent standard, powder coating the cam covers, replacing the silicone joiners, adding a flick of paint here and there and putting in some elbow grease. I have ordered a rear Cusco strut brace for that cool factor 8)

So I took my cam covers off for the week and took them into "Kwik Strip" and then down to "Total Coats" to be powder coated. Pretty happy with the results.
Colour I chose was called PPG Silver Quill, turned out to be pretty grey looking tho, but anything looks a million times better than the factory paint peeling off

fresh powder coating:

I then headed down to Hobby City and grabbed some enamel black, red paint and a fine brush for around 15 bucks.
An hour or two later and a very tired arm I was done:

Cant wait to get them back on the motor now :!:

Those cam covers look great Cam. What did they sting you at each outfit? I'd like to get mine done too one day.

And that engine bay is nothing like dirty enough. You need to come on the run this weekend, that oughtta sort it out.

Quikstrip charged 80 bux +gst
And total coats was 80 cash (any colour from their range)
Good if you have the Levin covers as they aren't even factory painted so no stripping involved. Or you could always get out the sand paper.

Will be there for sure Charlie, can't miss one of the best runs there is.
Have to say even driving to work it felt alot more ridgid and predictable

Just be aware that if you really push it you may find the back end will want to step out more easily now. Like when you fit an SW sway bar on the back of an AW. Feels way more planted until all of a sudden it decides to handle more like an SW than an AW, and snaps on you...

Look forward to drooling over your engine bay on Sunday!

Yep, I have the whiteline sway bar and the snap oversteer can be bad at times, but it's controllable, its more the understeer into the corner I find annoying

Well no updates...so probably a good thing because nothing has broken...yet...

New tyres on the rear last week, opted for the cheaper 205/50/15 Hankook H457 rather than my usual Potenza, not much difference on a dry surface, Side walls definitely don't feel as solid, but boy are they pretty sketchy in the rain  It really peeves me off that Bridgestone no longer do the 205/50.

gave the old girl a long overdue wash today...and then it rained

how come you didn't go for a 205/55? doesn't seem like that big of a difference..

saw your car a while back in 2017, when I had my s dub, driving onto the north-western from Avondale - she looks & sounds pretty awesome!

With the offset of my wheels I think a taller tyre would end up rubbing the gaurds, I've rolled them and installed a sway bar to stop the 205/50 rubbing already. After wearing in my hankooks a little further they seem to be pretty decent, still not on par with a potenza, but you get what you pay for right.

Hahaha yea I get spotted often, I daily drive my AW have put over 50 thousand Kms in the past 4 years so she gets a fair workout. Cheers bro
