Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
Looks great Tom. Good effort with the rebuild and cool to see a different approach to the intercooler and intake system.

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
Seeing as Tom never takes photos of his car, here are a couple that I took from the times I've helped with the build or been for a cruise. (Tom is responsible for me becoming an MR2 nut. He sold me my first one)
Potentially more to come if I can find where I hid them

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
Time to place your bets lads!
Broke the car at manfield on the 3rd when intake temps skyrocketed.
Compression test results:
#1 - 165
#2 - 165
#3 - 165
#4 - 0
I'm guessing (hoping) burnt valve
Any takers on melted piston?
No weird noises just runs on 3 cylinders and fuel out exhaust.
Why do I never get to enjoy this car over summer

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
My guess is a broken ring or popped piston. Surprised that IAT soured with your A2W. What fuel were you running?

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
HI, Quick update
SWapped that gen 4 i had laying about, also got offered a loom and intercooler kit, perfect timing! very lucky.
Goes really well, very impressed with the smooth power delivery and fuel economy. Also it makes better turbo noises
havent pulled the gen 2 motor apart yet, might have time to get stuck into that next week, very interested to see what happened!
I didnt want to miss out on this car during the summer again so i threw this together as cheap as i could, hopefully get some tracktime out of it while i find out if ive done any severe damage to the other motor.
Maybe repaint it this year too if i can be bothered.. 2018's looking busy!
also details will come within the year about another Hawkes Bay meet as you can see our sunsets make for great photo opps!
Anyway, Camera whore

oops sorry had just seen this! i was running gull 98..Benckj wrote:My guess is a broken ring or popped piston. Surprised that IAT soured with your A2W. What fuel were you running?
..BUT! i also found a small split in my boost line so guessing it over boosted big time and IATs were already hot so somethings melted

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
Been a busy year for me, but I've still had some time to enjoy this car.
Had a great drive day at Taupo in june, the gen 4 swap is proving it's worth. Had a good game of cat and mouse with a mate in the EG civic behind me here..
Until my dipstick blew out, due for a rematch
I got another set of wheels, the Volk CV pros I had refurbished for a friend are mine for now. And I wrapped them in a new set of Falken RT615K's.. highly recommend this tyre, although I have nothing to compare it too.
Also just installed a set of BC coilovers due to my shocks leaking tremendously, so I'm very excited to see what it's capable of now. These BC's have a very high quality craftsmanship for a entry style coilovers.
Headed back to Taupo on October the 14th for another drive day, have a bit of fun against a few mates. Gonna be some cool cars there, sign up and join in!

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
Did you check what caused the dipstick to blow out? Blocked crankcase ventilation, excess blowby or what?

Re: Tom's GTLIMITED
I assumed it was from me hitting the high boost switch and that it's a dipstick from a 1JZ engine. Hasn't happened since.
