Well! I ended up selling my old white SW back in 2014 as I just didn't have time or the money to continue with it.
Fast forward to the 10th January 2016 and I had another one, although this one was orange/gold/green with the old red paint showing through.
I haven't done a lot to the car since I've owned it, it spend nearly six months in my garage trying to sort out a coolant leak before we gave up and ran out of ideas. Have replaced/added:
-Fog lights,
-Steering wheel as it was hideous to say the least,
-Gear knob as it was barely held on
-Long piece that center console sits on as it had significant dents in it from leaning on it while driving
-Thermostat
-Rocker cover gasket
-Spark plugs
-Short shifter
-Leads
-Headunit
-Subwoofer and amp
-Alarm and immobilizer installed although it went off all the time for no reason which was a pain and no longer makes a noise after we did some other work on the car so will have to look into that. Was a terrible job done anyway unfortunately.
-Single tip exhaust
-Window wiring needs looking at as windows don't often like going up or down
I now plan to do a Gen 3 3sge swap from a celica in the next six months or so so will upgrade what I can while I'm there. Will also look at upgrading suspension, brakes, bigger wheels etc. Some big plans to come! Car has only done 10,000kms since I've owned it but certainly plan to change that once new engine is in and running

Re: 2nd 1990 NA SW20
So it's been a while since I've posted an update here.
Have pretty much got engine ready to pull out of sw and have stripped down new engine on a stand in the garage. Now time for a rebuild! Am now also looking at going +T just because so we'll see how that goes. I also have no idea where to start with any of it so should be interesting.
Time for an adventure!

Will you be bolting on a turbo to the 3SGE or swapping out for a full 3SGTE?scarylilrambo wrote:So it's been a while since I've posted an update here.

Bolting on, but it's looking like that's going to be more tricky than I thought..

It's possible to do but you'll need A LOT of custom work and this usually ends with things breaking as they are a one off not tested solution.scarylilrambo wrote:Bolting on, but it's looking like that's going to be more tricky than I thought..
Compression ratio on a 3SGE is far higher than the 3SGTE so you'll not be able to run much boost and must run it on 98 octane fuel minimum.
You'll need an aftermarket ECU and wiring to get it working reliably with a good tune so you don't blow it up.
IMHO you are better off going with a turbo motor such as a GEN4 from an ST215 Caldina GTT. The money and time spent trying to +T a 3SGE isn't really worth it for the small gains you will get. Cheaper to do the GEN4 swap and have a reliable factory tuned engine than messing with something unknown.
I only suggest this as you mentioned you have no idea where to start.
If you really want to do this then it's going to be a fun learning experience.

Re: 2nd 1990 NA SW20
Thankyou for that, I had been hell bent on doing it anyway but I had a re think and am now doing a Gen 4 3sgte swap from a GTT Caldina instead with parts for mr2 so I have Gen 3 3sge parts up for sale if anyone wants something. Bring on the Gen 4 swap. Dropping my current Gen 1 3sge engine this weekend and then the fun will begin!GDII wrote:It's possible to do but you'll need A LOT of custom work and this usually ends with things breaking as they are a one off not tested solution.scarylilrambo wrote:Bolting on, but it's looking like that's going to be more tricky than I thought..
