That look great! Now go buy some CarPro DLUX and apply it to the black faded plastic on the rear to make it look like new again
I see you have already painted the intakes on the sides silver.

I brought them in silver. I'm planning on plasti dipping the mags and intakes. Thinking gunmetal, gloss black or antique gold. That DLUX looks awesome. Will grab some. What's the best way to restore the lights?GDII wrote: I see you have already painted the intakes on the sides silver.

Depending on the condition you can either use a plastic or paint polish or if they are really bad sandpaper with nothing more course than 2000 grit and then polish them. Start with the polish first to see how they come out.Sweetmelly22 wrote:I brought them in silver. I'm planning on plasti dipping the mags and intakes. Thinking gunmetal, gloss black or antique gold. Re: She's pink! Pictures ;)
Phil I guess you have never seen how professionals clean plastic headlights.
The guy who did my Stagea ones showed me. Using a stanley blade to scrape the surface off. Literally taking the surface of the plastic off, then sand back with wet and dry, then buff on polishing buff, with a compound. That gets rid of any surface scratches as well as removing the UV protection, if there was any.
Never used 2,000 grit in my life with any of the polishing I have done!
And I came into NZ as a registered automotive refinisher.
You see those sets of wheels. 80, then 240, 360, 800, 1,200 cutting compound, (the only reason I do not recommend cutting compound as used in the trade, is that you get people who do not know what they are doing and polish around in circles. This you see often enough! And is called Cobwebbing), finish with a quality polish.
But for headlights Brasso does it. And I am against spraying with clear, as that can eat into the plastic and mess them up for good.
If they have crazy cracks all the way through you just have to put up with polishing and except they will never be that good even they are nice and polished.
One can of Brasso does many things, Paint, chrome, glass, plastics, most metals, costs very little. Or you can go and buy the kit, which is totally designed to take your money.

Cutting compound followed by polish does the trick but if it doesn't wet sand with a fine grit, then cut and polish.

Agreed. The late great Bandasorus demo'd it to us a few years back at his place in the Coromandel. I've used it ever since and for restoring plastics to a high gloss finish it's simply brilliant.clawnz wrote:But for headlights Brasso does it.

Hey that DLUX stuff looks to have done an awesome job on the rear plastics there Phill. Nice. That kind of stuff with 3D crevices etc is not so easy to restore with Brasso, which is more suited to smooth surfaces I guess.
Melissa I'm thinking maybe I should move this thread to the Rides section and you can keep throwing stuff at it whenever you do stuff to your car?
Needs a wing too I reckon. Joel's MRS has a wing that's a brilliant shape and suits it perfectly.

Re: She's pink! Pictures ;)
Hi Melissa
Sweet Spyder Mine is not as good as this. With regards to a wing don't let us blokes bully you into what we think looks good on your car. You have done a fine job of making it yours and just because we think a wing looks good doesn't mean you have to get one. Taste is a subjective thing so whatever you want to do with it is your choice.
If you do want a wing though speed factory have them and here's the link. http://www.speedfactory.co.nz/site/body ... ta/mrs.php
They aren't like Joels though his came on the car from Japan. Short of me distracting him while you unbolt and steal his I don't think we can get ones like that though I would like one.
Anyway well done and im following your thread with interest
