That looks great. A nice height, not too low. I miss having my car down in the south island, awesome photo!

Well I think I have finally finished for now. Some 17" wheels and a paint job would be great :) but I am happy for now.

I replaced the brake hoses with Stainless Goodridge hoses and flushed out with DOT 5.1.

I have installed the tail lights. The centre panel is wrapped in carbon fibre vinyl. Might paint it black in the future depending on how well it lasts.

Looking good. Those are some nice brake lines.

That fluid is good stuff. I have the TRD 'version' of it. Same stuff just cheaper price.

That carbon wrap stuff lasts for a long time. I put some on my car back in 2012 and it's still good. A little faded but you can only tell if you put it up against the fresh stuff that has not seen the sun. Just be very careful with paint waxes, compounds or polishes, it gets in the pattern and it's very hard to get out. Tape over the edges if you want when doing anything like that and you'll keep it nicer for longer.

Personally I like that panel colour matched but it's very common for the black to go with the red. Breaks up the back of the car a bit. But then I'm a big fan of OEM styling so I'm just odd. :D

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah I like the way that black works with those lights on the red car.

A couple of months back I noticed some grey smoke coming from the crank case breather.
After some research, this looks like blowby. I ran a compression test and got 165 125 165 165.
This is a good enough excuse for me to do a gen 4 swap.

I will be selling some of my upgrades soon to fund this.

Watch this space....

That's never good news. Good thing your on to it and able to plan a transplant. Just make sure you keep the oil topped up above full line while you look into the options. Don't need to cook the big ends and destroy the block & crank which may have some value.

Gen 4 is a very good upgrade. Just make sure you get the ECU and are prepared for re-wiring the loom.

Thanks Jim.

Did you do a gen 4 in yours? I think I know what to expect but would be great to have more advice

You can send off your looms to places in the USA but DIY would be way cheaper if you know what you are doing . I don't know why after all these years there is no information on the net about doing this sort of rewire. Everyone hides it and are not willing to share. I know when I do mine I'll be sharing everything but that won't be for a while now due to other commitments.

It's got something to do with the circuit opening relay and fuel pump and a few other things. I've tried to work it out using the Caldina wiring diagram and my knowledge of the JDM SW20 wiring but very hard to know exactly how things go together without having the Caldina wiring on hand.

Quite a large number of people in our club have done this swap but no detailed write up on how it was done. What I do know is that the USDM and JDM wiring is slightly different so even if the USA guys had something it might not completely line up with our cars but it would definitely give 90% of the info to figure it out.

Yeah I was thinking I might send the loom to the states.
Some of the other parts I would need, like the intercooler pipes, look good from companies like Prime.

I have incomplete gen 4 wiring on my car, I didn't do it so there's no write-up. I do think it's pretty trivial though, you just read the description of the Caldina wiring and match it. The only thing I can think of is to get an inline adaptor for the temperature sensor (you'll need to buy a gen 2 sender) and the tachometer needs a 10K resistor swap which is widely covered.

Here are some relevant PDFs I found from a while back.
Toyota - Wire Harness Repair Manual (RM1022E).pdf

Caldina Electrical.pdf
