You might also just need some higher temp grease to sort it out. The standard Toyota grease wouldn't have been formulated for the loads you're pushing through the CV's
That's a fair point. And worth while me getting something when I get the new boot.
Thanks :D

Nice work Paul,
I have 225/45/15's on mine. I haven't tried them on the road as yet but they look the part. I have seen 245/40/15's available in the States but i think you would have to import them so they end up a bit expensive. The guys at megasquirt are very helpful! I have been hounding them with questions for years and they tirelessly answer them. Then I change my mind and head in a different direction. I guess when you have 5 project cars and work 7 days a week there isn't a lot of time to finish stuff up!

Cheers,

Douglas

Nope that doesn't give you a lot of free time! Thanks mate but I have 17" wheels. Think I've settled on 225 rears and 205 fronts. And I can get these in the tyres I want. Which I might get next week :D

My God!!!
Took the car for a quick hoon today... (so much fun, but I knew that already!)
Another CV boot spitting grease!!!
(Too many G's!! )
I've now put RTV under every boot clamp point.

Also slight drips from each of the 3 silicone radiator hoses I have at every join. I just picked up some new clamps and I will RTV under each hose tonight aswell! And replace each clamp.
Trying to hold everything in so I can take it on the run Sunday!

I found mine was doing the same. Just gave the hose and surface a clean and double clamps in case the original spring one was too weak

All new hoses, clamps and surfaces cleaned when I rebuilt it. I also had 2 clamps on one fitting and that still leaked. I blame the hoses (Ali Express) But fingers crossed my shitty mods tonight work! Its not a lot, just seems be a slight drip at every spot once hot.

Has mknz touched my car? Because everything leaks! :P

So I have now put rtv under all my CV boots to keep the grease from spitting out at high velocity. So far so good!

Then this....

Damn Ali Express silicone hoses!!

Yup, they leak through the hoses at multiple points hot or cold. I wipe the drips away and you can watch them reappear before your very eyes! (I took a video also, but I think you get the point)
Replaced the hoses with some flexible rubber ones. So far so good!

Next was a loose bolt and exhaust leak before the turbo!

Obviously expansion and contraction is an issue. But I think the biggest problem here is the pipe and bends are so close that with 10mm bolts I can't get a socket or ring spanner on the head of the bolts. So I really struggle to get them tight. And smash my knuckles to bits in the process!!

So I've replaced the gaskets. Used some exhaust sealant, and changed the bolts to high tensile 8mm with maximum uga dugas. Also high temp thread lock. Fingers crossed!

And what else happened.... Oh yeah, some how my tune went a bit bad and it was flooding on start up.
We tried a few things, messing with cranking enrichment etc. But just made it worse. Turns out, if you just reload the tune again it fixes it! No idea why. But happy its sorted.

And new tyres...

Talk about filling up the gaurds! :D :D

Another thrash through the country roads. Another leak....
Or maybe less of a leak, more of a full on blow out!
20200710_133901.jpg
Its my own fault really for thinking this hose join would would hold without a bead!
Although it did with the silicone hoses, on the dyno and everything. Of course they were all leaking.... so never holding pressure.
20200710_140501.jpg
Fixed it! (I hope)
I really didn't want to tackle that myself as I have only a handful of hours behind the tig. And I had never welded stainless before. But turned out to be quite easy (not pretty though, I know!)

Anyway, topped it back up, bled it, and it got hot real fast. Radiator still cold and the temp gauge I have after the thermostat still cold. So I figure the thermostat some how went bad during that whole debacle also.
Getting sick of fixing things and just want to enjoy the damn car this weekend! So I whipped that thermostat out tonight, now letting the RTV dry.
I know its not ideal. But the car gets a bit hot anyway on the track. And its not a daily. So I'll idle it up to temp with the fans off and see how it goes. See how fast it warms up, how much cooler it runs? Who knows, I might put a new stat back in it soon?

1 million fingers crossed for tomorrow!!

Damit, removing the thermostat made no difference!
It still warms up quick then gets too hot. The temp gauge in the rad line to the radiator doesn't read a temperature. And the radiator is stone cold.
Guess I'm doing a water pump then! What a pain!!!
