ClanFever's Toyota Sprinter Carib Z-Touring

Thought I would do a rides thread for my Sprinter Carib. As it's my reliable Touring Workhorse and has taken me to more MR2 days than MR2s, I only thought it was fair.

Running a 1.6 Litre 4A-FE, it's a not so distance cousin of the MR2. Making a massive 85KW from factory, connected to the road via a 5 speed manual gearbox. It has an open differential, I am hoping to one day make it an LSD as I'd like it to have a little bit of off road capability on loose mud or sand.

I got her at the beginning of 2012 from a wholesaler, with only 178,000KM on the clock. I had a full cambelt kit done to it, a towbar added, lowered it, changed it's wheels, added sounds including a sub, tinted it and kept it till late 2014, when it was involved in a couple minor accidents. After fixing it, I sold it at around 250,000KM.

10 months later I was back in the market for a cheap car. I found it for sale on Trademe, and bought it back (it had been sold to another owner before I got my hands back on it). 20,000km had been added to it. And as far as I could tell, it was the same car.

I have recently raised it back on 30% stiffer standard height springs/new shocks, and had another full cambelt kit and new clutch chucked into it. And it still goes strong with 283,000KM on the clock.

Photos of when I first got it, and after I had put wheels, tints and the towbar on it.

I have also since added a couple of space savers to the roof, along with a nose piercing. It also has a few battle scars around it's exterior. Nothing like some history to make the bonds of driver and car closer.

Today I took it to Phil's (GDII), and together with Josh we gave it one hell of a going over. It has needed a very good clean for a while now. I am returning in a few weeks to have it buffed.

Before and after photos with free reflections of ClanFever and GDII. Crappy photos don't do it justice, it looks literally 1 billion times better after the work today. No pictures of interior either, so much cleaner in there.

She's still going strong. I have some monsoon rain deflectors to put on her once I find the time. She is still having a weird electrical issue, it may be related to the poor wiring to the amp, as the issue almost seems like something is draining the current. She has just cracked 290,000km as well

Test the battery drain when the car is off then start removing fuses until the draw goes way down. That's if you are having battery drain issues.
From observing you try to start the car it seems like a starter motor issue but I think you said it has a new one installed recently.

The problem may have been resolved, I rewired the Sub and not only is the Sub not longer randomly powering off, but I haven't had the starter motor problem again... but it was intermittent. Who knows. Also 4AFE power

The air horn stopped working. Caused by the positive point on the compressor completely corroded off. Ordered a new compressor and some new trumpets, using the additional line and tri splitter managed to get another trumpet onto the lot. Rewired both the positive and ground wiring while I was there. It's now even louder than before :D

Poor Carib got involved in an altercation. Was nearly a hit and run but I persuaded the other driver to pull over... insurance covering the whole thing, no affect on my premium or excess

Also, the old girl is still going strong :D
