Could there be an underlying issue as to why the front crankshaft seal may be leaking?
All depends on if the seal is OK and was installed properly. Sometimes the face or shaft gets damaged from people prying old seals out or wreaking rubber lip when installed. Some decent pics may help determine if this is where the problem lies.
I'll try get some pics when it's next apart.
Unfortunately I don't know when that will be because I start back at tech next week.

Did you happen to install the seal when oil pump was removed? Just wondering if its in the correct position with relation to the crankshaft. There might be step change or lip on crank although I can't recall.

That was the second thing I did after the Oil pump was ruled out. there is a sort of lip by the oil pump housing, just past where the belt pulley slides on/mounts.
Im gonna pick up another seal from toyota this time and take my time putting in the seal. Hopefully I can get onto that next week

Don't knock it in all the way. Just until the front is flush with the oil pump housing aluminium lip around the seal.

So on a more positive note, recently the previous owner of my car got in contact with me and said he had a set of springs that he was going to put onto the MR2 before he sold it. He said that I could have them if I wanted, so not being one to say no to free car parts, I agreed.

Im not quite sure exactly what they are, The shocks are black and have a label on them saying Bilstein Toyota, and it they have blue springs on them.
Does anyone know anything about these shocks and springs?

By OEM do you mean they are like stock? Also what height are the springs likely to be compared to stock springs?

OEM fitted to cars as an option for earlier stuff and I think standard on the later cars. Good stuff though for the price they used to be sold as. Now $450 a corner which is way to much.

It's hard to tell what springs they are from the potato photo. Clean them up and look for a part number or branding. I'm not very familiar with Espelir stuff. Only guessing due to colour, could be another brand.

On one of the rear shocks it says M3X01874. On the other rear shock it had a sticker on it with the part number TRL-113 with 3825 under it. I don't know if that means anything?

I've been struggling to find anything about them. Wouldn't happen to have any info or links about them?

TRL-113 is rear springs and TFL-112 are front springs. They are the Sport Low spring for the SW20. The only spring they have listed in their catalog.

They list a spec of 25-40mm lowering for the Sports low. This covers all springs for all cars. As we know from MR2s depending on the year you have the car will drop different amounts. Your car will drop the least so it may only drop 20mm or so but can't be sure.

Al's comment is more, Lovells make good springs in general so nothing to worry about. Lovells themselves do not specify a spring rate for these so maybe email them to ask as they still make this set so should have that data.

Had them in an old EE80 Corolla and a mate had them in a '88 VR4 Galant about 20 years ago. We thought they were great.

I got a reply back from Lovells.
They said that the springs will drop the car 35-40mm from factory and the spring rates are 130lbs per inch for the front springs (TFL-112) and 240lbs per inch for the rear springs (TRL-113).
Is anybody able to tell me what this means? Or what it would do to the handling characteristics of the MR2?

In other news I put forward payment to join the MR2 Owners Club NZ!
Figured it was about time I did that.
