So I had a lot of trouble getting the oil filter off, so that didn't happen until tonight but it's finally done. In the end it was a Ryco spin on filter wrench that did it. Such god awful place to put an oil filter!
I've filled it with 4L of Penrite 10W-30 semi synthetic. Have another litre on standby.

Last weekend I took a look at the water level and noticed a build up of sludge under the cap so I dumped the coolant again. All was looking good so I've filled it up and bled the air out again. Getting quite good at that now

Car has had a bit of a wash now too - all ready for Saturday's run. Can't wait.

Oh right, I noticed that my oil pan sensor plug is shot. The plastic has disintegrated. so I'll need to pick one up from somewhere and wire it up. Another job on the list.

Yeah the GEN1/2 3S oil filter is in a sill place. The 4A isn't much better. I always have issues getting mine off even if I do it up to spec.

The oil level sensor is not needed. If the light comes on you can just bridge the plug to cancel it out. With your knowledge of cars and always checking oil levels you won't need it. But if you really want it the USA 3SGTE has it too, might still be able to get one but they don't do anything useful for car guys.

Ahh sweet, good to know. In that case I'll just tuck the cable away somewhere and be done with. No engine light as yet but I suppose I'll keep this in mind in case it comes on anytime soon.

It will be an oil level light. Looks like an oil can with water under it I think.

Time does speedo up when you steal my parts

Took the car on the club run today around Makara, had loads of fun and the car performed nicely. No heating problems at all. As I was going round corners with the windows open I was able to hear a squeak/squeal noise when turning left. Sounded a bit like a worn out brake pad, but occurred with no braking. I couldn't work out whether it was front or rear but it is on the passenger side. If it's front left then it's the same corner as my bad suspension strut which needs looking at anyway. Perhaps related somehow.
I was thinking wheel bearing maybe, not used to those squeaking though.

Also found that a headlight has gone - same corner as the above problems!

Was good getting out for a twisty drive in the sun though. Good inspiration seeing everyone's shiny 2's!

I should mention that they were good enough to deliver to the Hotel I was staying at on a particular date. I was a bit worried but they pulled through

Been a while since last update but here we are.
Pre lockdown my car failed it's warrant :

• tints too dark

• driver seatbelt gone

• headlights pointing downwards (due to my experiments with LED headlights)

• front brake imbalance

Since then I've sorted out the seatbelt, removed the tints, and raised the headlights a bit(will probably need to adjust further - need a good wall)

I've given it a service - I'm getting much better at the oil filter change - only burnt myself a couple of times!

Today I've raised the front of the car to have a look at the brake problem - good time to finally have a look at my Apexi coilovers too which have always been a problem. Found some interesting things:

• The ride stiffness adjuster is on the bottom of the strut - an easy to turn dial. I couldn't find it with the wheels on.

• Both coilover adjusters were set differently

• Both coilovers ride heights seem like they are probably different.- front passenger side looks to be lower? see image.

I'm also not sure how to judge the condition of brakes, but these rotors are looking pretty tired? Time to replace perhaps?
Since we are locked down I'm sure VTNZ will forgive me on the late recheck. Hopefully I am able to get some parts in time
Not quite sure how I'm going to tackle the brake imbalance for the warrant though. Perhaps change pads and give them a bleed and perhaps change the rotors too? I suppose it depends how much it will all cost me... It's all me stabbing in the dark though.

I'd pull the calipers off the bracket and check the pins they should both have a high temp lubricant on them. At the same time check the piston boots

Measure the thickness of your rotors, if lower than the min thickness (written on the inside of the disc ) then a new set is in order .
I can give the outer edge a tickle on the lathe at work if you what the 'lip " removed
