Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
I used less than half that amount and it was much brighter and whiter than stock. Be careful with the heat generated in that small space as could lead to an electrical fault or even fire.

Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
Thanks for the caution Jim, I left them on for about an hour and temp checked the enclosure on the inside and it had barely moved. And hopefully because they aren't usually on for long they will be fine.

Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
Well another damn problem. Battery went flat, alarm went off.
I thought it was my alarm, and I decided to put the car back in the shed. So I jump started it, checked the voltage and got 13.7v. that's the same that I have got since I had the alternator fixed. Chucked the car in gear, and down it went to 9v. Something wrong here.
Quickly put car in the shed and it was an excellent photo op, the sun shone in the shed door at the right angle to show me SMOKE!
Smoke was coming from the corner in which the alternator resides. I know it wasn't the belts, was definitely electrical.
So I pulled alternator out, and managed to get cover off and this is what I found.....
I don't know if that hole is supposed to be there.

That hole looks like it is meant to be part of the assembly.

Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
I’m not so sure as it looks quite burnt. Pull the rectifier off and inspect from other side. Often it’s the diodes that go when faults occur.

Burnt vs dark aluminium in shadow? Best to get the unit tested now that it's out.

Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
Well while doing the alternator, I decided to finish fitting the rear engine mount. My mate helped with this. We had to remove the cat to be able to remove mount.
Where could I go for a decat? Or should I make one at home?Keith "Crawls" Crawley

Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
If you do make a Decat pipe, it will smell funky, trust me I know. What you need to make sure of is that the ID of the pipe is bigger than the pipes protruding out of the flange of the B pipe and muffler. I'm pretty sure it was 2.5" based on how I had mine made.

Funky? Is that the correct term? Does it stay funky or what?

I mean fuel smell and if it burns oil, that smell will be way stronger.

Re: Creepie's MR2 Restore
Well I ended up gutting the cat and reinstalling the exhaust, wallet was saying NO! to a replacement.
I also tackled the issue at hand, Electrical issues.
I was having issues with the transmission, plus the oddball voltage I was getting. After speaking to a few guys after the AGM, I went to town on checking different things. And after bleeding lol, I discovered that I was having a earth problem, eg not having a good enough earth.
I found a battery cable in my shed, got the end replaced and fitted it from engine block to strut tower. That's all I done to the electrics, started up the car, and my volt meter in dash had gone up, (not by much, but was better) but the important part was, my transmission issues - GONE!
I have also replaced an existing earth cable with a bigger, thicker one. And also found my volt meter in the dash while reading 13.8v, the battery was 14.6
