Wow, I have 0 clue how yours fit.

Mine don't even come close to reaching the shock bracket. And if I jacked it up and put it in, the shock bottom point would become the brake line, which is a big no no.

I ended up ordering from HEL a set of front braided brake lines. Hopefully it will be okay.

The shock mount should slide, slap a little CRC on it just to get it to move a little

I don't like my HEL brake lines. They don't have the proper mounting for the hardline end in the rear. So they just float.

I wish I knew this before ordering HEL lines.

The mount does slide. It just took a fair amount of convincing. On another note, if anyone wants a brand new set of front HEL braided brake lines for SW20 lemme know

Got everything done today with the brakes, bonnet latch, and clutch.

Had issues bleeding the fluids. Had a vacuum pump, but both the clutch and brake pedal remained soft, in particular the brake pedal. Barely any brakes, but we bled it all out properly. But the master has been sitting for a lil bit with no fluid, so were gonna sit it overnight until Monday when I can have another crack. Same with the clutch. Seemed to sit only halfway between where the pedal should be and the floor after like 10 attempts at bleeding it.

So I left the car jacked up on the rear, gonna have another crack on monday. Cheers guys, appreciate the advice.

Can you elaborate? Honestly I have no idea if i'm doing it right.

We're using a vacuum pump, and keeping it all above the nipple. Not using the clutch to pump (Just tested it at the end).

You you bled the master's prior to installation or fitting the hard lines? Air can get in them quite easily and you won't get it out of its connected to the main system.

This is what the BGB says about bleeding the clutch ignoring air in the master.

No I did not bleed the master cylinders prior to installation for neither the clutch nor the brakes. Am I going to have to remove them and bench bleed them?

I did have a read of the BGB clutch bleed, we tried that too, no luck. I'll have another crack tomorrow, hopefully that fixes it

Clutch bleeding always seems to be an issue with these cars. I've never done one so don't know a tried and true trick.

You don't have to take them out of the car. My method was to get short hardlines to screw into the port(s) then a clear hose that went back into the reservoir for each port and pump the master slowly until no bubbles can be seen. Then quickly install the hardlines on the car to the master. It's bench bleeding, but in the car.

Can get clutch bled without doing MC seperately. Couple of the tricks relate to getting slave air out as it works in a push pull fashion. Connect clear line to nipple and run up though engine bay. If you can apply a vacuum to this hose while working petal and bleed nipple. Helps to have car lifted on RHS to facilitate air extraction.

I'm gonna leave any more brake updates to the other post I made under the other section. Keep my mistakes there haha.
IMG20210129160211.jpg
So after resolving my brake issues, I ended up getting an alignment first thing on Toyotafest morning (Earliest I could) along with mounting my new to me Advan SA3Rs, with new tyres.

Specs:
17 x 8 +35 fronts
17 x 9 +38 rears

Was going with 215 and 235 40 profile pairs for fronts and rears respectively. However, tragedy!!! My front right shock housing is very odd - Won't fit any of my 215/40s. Even my half worn, slim Nankang 215/40 rubbed against the shock housing hard.

But the left side had heaps of clearance. See below (Goodride is right shock 205/40, Westlake is left shock, 205/40).
IMG20210130103011.jpg
IMG20210130103000.jpg
I'm not sure what's causing this. I'm going to take apart the suspension to have another look soon. But, I had to settle with a mismatch pair of 205/40 to make it driveable to get to Toyotafest.

Eventually, while late, I did make it to the Toyotafest party.

IMG20210130123104.jpg
IMG20210130123122.jpg
IMG20210130131321.jpg
But even after a fresh alignment, balance, tyres, the steering wheel is pretty shaky at 100km/h and it doesn't feel like the car is driving straight at all. I have a feeling it's to do with the shock on the right being lower than the left. I'm not too sure what's going on here.

But that's the update for now! I'm missing some parts I know, and the rust repair is yet to be done, but it's driving!!!!

Was a great feeling to be back in an MR2 after a few months of missing it.

Bye Bye Red Car

Post by GlanzaAtHeart »

Dropped the red car off to the body shop today, along with the blue car, to get the rust repair done.

It's being cut up tomorrow and then off to the scrapyard before the end of the week.

Should be about ~ 3 weeks when I get the car back, for rust repair and paint, it'll just take some time. That gives me time to prepare my wallet

In the mean time will be organising a few gauges, painted my gauge pod black, but trying to find some wrap perhaps, and some other little bits here and there.

Cannot emphasise how excited I am to finally get my car back today from the body shop, after a bit of a muck around and various delays and mistakes, we're finally back RUST FREE and with a new lick of paint.

The boot has been welded up, boot latch done, front cut taken from the red car, and paint touched up all around. It's a slightly different blue from when Tom has painted it, because turns out the body shop has touched every panel on the car (Wasn't the agreement), but what's done is done, and it's slightly "More metallic" they said, but as a colourblind person, it's pretty god damn close.

Over the next few days, I''ll be updating with some mechanical progress as I sift through a few suspension, steering, brake, and exhaust upgrades and fixes.
