Oh for sure it is! I'm really having fun with this. Still plenty more to come.

More cleaning. I forgot I had a box of parts that needed cleaning from when I pulled the engine apart. These are the camshaft caps that go at cylinder No1 end by the belt pulleys.

Getting the burnt oil off is a slow process but it eventually does come off. These cam caps still need some work.

Much better! I'm mostly happy with how these came out. They do get hidden once the engine is put back together but still nice to get it all sorted.

3SGTE camshaft caps getting a clean up. Not perfect on the exhaust side as that gets hotter so the oil gets more cooked. I'll give them another go but I'm surprised they came up this well with just soap and a brush.

An overnight soak and gentle scrub got most of the oil buildup off. Not perfect but it won't affect anything. Next is to clean up the bolts a bit to remove any large bits that could come off and get into the oil system.

This rear main seal retainer is rather dark inside. Hopefully I can clean up most of it. I have to remove the seal first.

OEM the rear main seal sits flush with the retainer housing with a gap in the back.

Hot water and a decent cleaner worked well. I didn't manage to get right inside to clean the whole lot out but it's sufficient for now. The outside will get some proper treatment to look fresh.
You could try oven cleaner down the inside.....
See ya

Definitely a possibility! I might also try my wheel brush although I'd rather not cover it in oil as that ruins it.

These bolts hold the rear main seal retainer in place. They don't have any corrosion on them so a clean up is all that was required. I won't be plating these again.

These bolts hold the oil pump or front cover to the block. Some are outside the cam belt cover so have corrosion which I'll remove and plate them again.

Removing old silicone from the sump. Plastic scrapper seemed to work fine.

The nuts and bolts for the sump windage tray and baffle. They were rather dirty. I haven't bothered to clean them up fully, as long they don't drop any big deposits into the oil system they will be fine. They are inside the engine anyway so you won't see them once installed.

After only a soak for a few hours and shake up in a pottle of hot water and soap. No scrubbing, yet.

These came up incredibly well! For the sake of stripping and plating 2-3 bolts with some very minor surface rust, I think these will be suitable to install as is. I really really like the OEM bolt finish.

Remember those bolts I did a test in silver? They are now gold after I found I needed them for the turbo support bracket. So I stripped them back to bare steel and did them again. Now they match the bracket! Much better.
