Re: GDII's 1990 G-Limited
Things haven't stopped with the swap. Slowly progressing with parts gathering in the background.
New part for making cool sounds!!
I've always wanted a turbo engine for all the sounds that come with them. Not only do you get the sound of the turbo spooling but the excess pressure created when the throttle plate closes also makes some exciting sounds.
I decided to buy a Go Fast Bits (GFB) T9002 BOV for the MR2. This is the Respons model which has an adjustable bias system in it. It allows for 100% venting, 100% recirculating or any percentage in between. Being a MAP sensor engine, the ECU doesn't really care where you set it but my ears will.
Setting 1. Full venting, this BOV has the type of sound I wanted. No squeaking or whistling, just a nice PISH sound.
Setting 2. Full recirculation. If I run this into the intake pipe with just a POD filter, it's not going to muffle the noise much so my solution is to create a muffler box inside an airbox I want to make in future to control the sound and make it wife friendly. The standard Caldina airbox has an almost fully sealed compartment inside to control the sound.
Setting 3. Add a blanking plug to the venting port and set it to 100% venting. This will effectively make it as if there was no BOV and it will make the tsutsutsu sound quite a few people like.
I was very curious to see how these things were built so I took it apart. Quite a complex unit but very well built. No wonder they cost a fair amount.

Re: GDII's 1990 G-Limited
TRD sports oil filter. Part number 90915-SP010. Equivalent to the OEM part number 90915-10004. Its built quite well vs some aftermarket filters but you'd hope so with how much it costs. The O ring is crimped onto the filter so it won't come off and get stuck on the engine when changing it. Definitely a nice addition to the TRD parts collection! It comes with a nice window sticker too.

Phil, I think you can do better than that. Filter is the wrong shade of red and clashes with your paintwork.

Re: GDII's 1990 G-Limited
A new fuel pump. A Deatchwerks DW200 universal E85 compatible unit. Far smaller than the OEM non turbo pump but it is 20-30 years newer tech. This is a turbine pump and puts out 255lph at 40psi. See photos future along for flow rates at different psi and also Amperage draw. This pump will be plenty big enough for the stock power I'm after from the GEN4 3SGTE.
Why Deatschwerks and not Walbro (Ti Automotive now)? Because based on plenty of research, they are more quiet and failure rates are not like the Walbro units. I will be running the 2 speed fuel pump system from the Caldina that I'll incorporate into my swap to make it even more quiet. The NA cars ran the pump at full 12V all the time vs the turbos that had a resistor and relay to switch between 5V and 12V. That was in the body harness of the MR2 but in the engine harness of the Caldina. So I can add it into my swap. I'll probably run a new wire to the pump from engine bay to cabin to be sure it's not going to have any problems.
Still deciding if I add new sealed studs for the wiring and join new wires up outside the tank.

Re: GDII's 1990 G-Limited
Some MR2 Heaven aluminium intercooler pipes. Thanks to Eric for sorting out some cheaper shipping to get these to me! Nicely mandrel bent and bead rolled. Quite a nice "one piece" setup.
I picked these over the stainless steel or carbon fibre pipes due to the visual design these have. They run parallel with eachother in the engine bay and also parallel with the engine itself. I feel it's a cleaner look over the others but it's just personal preference. Carbon fibre wasn't on the cards for a few reasons. Cost more, don't fit with my build ideas and I also wanted to add a GFB BOV to it so I'd need to add a custom flange to the pipe so welding was the only way if I wanted to use the T9002 unit. Plus I want to powdercoat them a different colour.

Re: GDII's 1990 G-Limited
Brand new timing belt covers! My ones were a little broken around the mounting points. The only downside to doing this is the 3SGTE sticker is discontinued so I either need to get one made or try reuse my old one. I know there are some for the GEN4 3SGTE but not quite accurate to my liking. The YAMAHA on the cover is nice though.
These are the original stickers. Some you can get, others you can't.

A new axle carrier bearing for the E153 right side axle. Its a KOYO unit supplied to Toyota as an OEM product. The one I got on the axles is a little bit past it's used by date.

Rear hub bearings. Part number 90369-43008. These are NSK Japan bearings 43BWD06.
Fun fact, these bearings are the same for NA and turbo SW20s. The only thing that changes is the spline size in the hub. This makes the NA hub technically stronger than the Turbo hub as there is more material left in the NA due to a smaller axle.

Re: GDII's 1990 G-Limited
New axle seal and bearing seal covers. And just when you thought you got the right part numbers... Although turns out I need one I ordered that was 'wrong' anyway.
Axle seal cover 41336-17020 is for the left axle gearbox seal where I actually wanted the right hand side that is 41336-12020. Easy to get wrong if you missed one cell in the table saying RH or LH and the PNC is 41336C.
43458-12010 is for the axle carrier bearing I posted earlier. New bearing goes on, this cover goes over it to protect it. Then the part I didn't order goes onto the end of the axle so it can protect the right side axle gearbox seal.
