Spent the weekend washing the MR2. Also sanded back the paint on the lower front bumper in prep for a proper coat of paint. Waxed the rest of the car as it was turning white again.

I finally got the front lip back last night. I will grab some filler primer and finish of all the small imperfections. Then coat it with some colour matched red paint and a clear coat. After that is done I will wrap the front lip and door mirrors with a carbon vibre look vinyl. I am painting the lip red first to give the vinyl a good surface to contact to. Or I could get some black and keep the red for the rest of the car.

I was thinking about what to do with the massive empty holes where the fog light were. Brake cooling ducts seemed the obvious choice. Mocked up some cardboard inserts to see how it would look.

I will get a new hose fitting tapped into the existing housing as it will be much cheaper than buying a new part.

Spent all day yesterday wrapping car parts in carbon fibre look vinyl. Pretty cool stuff. Stretches well with a bit of heat from a hair dryer.
My door mirrors were badly faded and had 3 tone pink colouring so I thought wrapping them in vinyl would be a good idea.

It is meant to be bubble free if installed correctly. The back side has this crazy pattern on it.

And the front lip which took quite some time as unsticking the vinyl to get all the wrinkles out was hard with so many large flat areas for it to stick too. Good result in the end.

My car is stuck facing the wrong way in the garage until I get it fixed. I will definitely get some pics up with them installed when I do.

I bought some CF wrap last year which I intended to experiment with. I like the idea about doing the front lip as paint doesn't seem to hold up. Looks like you have a good handle on the application. Maybe you can give me some pointers when you are down this way.

For others who have the faded mirror syndrome and want to stick with paint you can get matching rattle can paint from 'Colour Connection' or similiar auto supply outlets. Seems the mirrors, front & rear bumper and rear spoiler fad quicker than the rest of car. Easy enough to get paint and rattlle can these parts to match rest of car. OK doing with smaller plastic components but would not be tempted to get the luster required for body panels.

I can show you how. I had no experience at all with this stuff but just learnt as I did it. I was going to do the lip first but it was too big to do by myself so I did it last. Got some help from the Missus to get the initial application down then I did the rest myself. If you make a mistake just peel it off and try again. I didn't have to redo any parts. It's great stuff. Even if you wanted to use the coloured stuff that isn't textured it would work great.

I have some good colour matched paint that I have been using on parts like the lower front bumper. It would be pretty easy to do but the weather has been too cold lately. I think I will do the spoiler soon as I have quite a lot of spare paint.

I would like a 93-97 rear wing and I will probably wrap that in CF Vinyl too.

OK, will give a go when you down. Wonder how well the CF vinyl wrap will hold up to the elements, especially the lip?

I guess the 3M stuff would last longer but I have seen another product in the states that has a 3-4 warranty which 3M won't provide.

I know vinyl has a limited life so not expecting it to last in good condition for a long time. Maybe 3 years.

This is the stuff and the add says it is resistant to a few things. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 263505.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm not sure what happens to the UV protection when it's stretched like what I have done.

I'm very happy with it so I will see how it goes.

I have slowly been doing some stuff on the car. Sent my water outlet to my brother so he could make some new hose fittings. He made them from 304 stainless steel so they should last longer than another 22 years.

This morning I drained the remaining water from the car. There was maybe about 5 litres that came out. There should be 14.

Next is to reinstall the water outlet and try flush the system.

On a more positive note I have reinstalled the door mirrors.

I will bolt on the front lip after I have sorted the cooling system.

Also I have some 160watt 2 way pioneer speakers that I might install in the doors to replace the 20watt factory speakers. I've had these for years. They were in my EE90 Corolla previously.

Just finished wrapping the black front light surrounds. I think it's a good place to start. Only obvious when the lights are up and looks quite good. A nice subtle touch that isn't overpowering.

Someone in the US just did the same CF lip wrap as you did. They mention using 'white CF' vinyl if I do not want to change colours (or should I say 'colors'). Would consider this for the gen 5 wing as well.

Yes you can get white and grey CF vinyl. Also red and other colours but IMO that's not really going for that 'real carbon fibre look'. But if that's what you want it's a good idea.

I can't access that link. I'm not a member. *edit* Just signed up, waiting for activation

How easy do you think the Gen 5 wing will be? I assume you can take it apart into 5 bits? Main wing, uprights and adjustable covers. Could do the covers in black CF. The Gen 3 wing would be a big challenge I think. Not having seen a real one or looked closely at one I am not too sure.

*edit* Found this link. https://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forums/41/154077.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Standard front lip with 3M vinyl. Looks good on a dark blue car.
