While bleeding my mr2 today took some photos of the courtesy car, the one I have while the Carib is being repaired from the hit-and-triedtorunbutcouldntescapefromclanfever. The gearbox is terrible but the AC works... and it has an engine light on. Funny that it's the same car Phil has, but then again these are extremely common

Bring it my way and I'll check your engine light for you. Damn slush box. Mines manual, which isn't too common.

Actual things happened today. Minor, but things!

For far too long my driver's seatbelt didn't retract very well. I've always had the idea of pulling out the length of the belt and letting it soak in a bucket. But this would just be annoying being connected to the car. Not hard to remove it so out it came. The nasty mess that came out of the belt was terrible.

20 years of human slime! These are not the original belts. Most likely fitted in 2001 when the car was imported.

Scrubbed it with a brush and clothes washing powder. Even just dropping the belt in the soapy water made it turn brown.

Putting it out to dry once I had washed it with clean water a few times.

Under the trim was very dusty. It's always been like this since I bought it in 2008.

Much cleaner now.

This is where it's located if anyone wasn't sure.

Now the belt moves freely just like a new one!

Great idea. I had my seats cleaned by the commercial carpet cleaner when I got the car. Took the seats out so the interior carpet could be done too. It was pretty disgusting. I should have done this also.

Maybe it's car cleaning, maybe it's OCD

Now I want to do the same that you've pointed out how dirty all that stuff gets...

Reinstalled my engine lid gas strut as my standard lid support got damaged when the wind caught the lid and the end plastic broke off.

I took it off due to the TRD strut brace having extremely thick mounting plates and the REV1 and even REV2 suspension top hats having shorter studs than the REV3 items I have in there now. The build up thickness of the TRD plate and bracket was just too thick. I had to mod my lower bracket to fit the coolant overflow hose through as the TRD plates raised up this bracket. Also cut it around the welds to fit better. I'll make a nicer one later on or get a longer gas strut for use with the brackets I bought from TOYMAD on this forum.

Original lower bracket with flaking paint. Not the best looking thing but it's a temporary thing.

TOYMAD upper bracket. This one is designed for the GT/GT-S engine lids as it has a 3rd fixing bolt but still fits to the G-LIMITED engine lid hinge bolts.

The lower bracket fits across the front of the left strut and it bolted to 1 top hat stud and 1 earth strap.

It's one of the best mods to have for an MR2. Especially seeing as you are either always looking at the engine  or having to constantly check the oil and coolant. It's a 3S thing.

Looking good and agree it’s on of the best mods done on a MR2. Surprised you didn’t spray in a new coat of paint on lower bracket when removed. Your slipping Phil unless of course, baby duties called.

It's a temp fix. But I wanted to have a think about how I would remove the old paint and redo it rather than just spray over the old stuff and have a bad finish. It's actually silver with a red clear over it.

Yeah that's better looking. I didn't buy the gas strut so things are about different when I custom built mine.

I got the gas strut from a place in town. Got the requirements off toymad and got it made.

Looks good. I have been meaning to get one for a while now. Very convenient. Unfortunately the new lid clip was $2 which I couldn't pass up at the time. I noticed my new strut tops had much much longer bolts than the old ones.

Did you go from pod filter to stockish intake at some point?

Me? No, I've always had the airbox. Only removed the 2 resonators on the intake hose. It was actually not the lid clip that's broken, it's the end of the support rod that goes into the strut tower that broke in half.

Yeah a remember him saying he had the specs but as I had mine I thought I'd see if they were compatible. Clearly not quite. Even so, the TRD plates would push the left bolt way up on the bottom bracket. A spacer would be needed to keep it level and I know the bolt in there is short so I'd need another bolt for that too. Looks great on yours!
