I was told I got to wait for that dude in the big red suit to come with an engine crane. I have all the parts that I need to rebuild the engine completely now and then some.

I am hoping to do the body as well while the engine is out.

It has taken a long time to collect the parts etc. Thanks for asking mate :)
You volunteering to help?

Well Santa came and I now have a brand new shiny 2T engine crane sitting all assembled in the garage ready for the stripping process.

I am starting to get all my little ducks in a row ready for this.

It has started.

I have around 125 pictures that I have taken to remind me where all the bolts go.

The engine is not out of the car and is ready to be stripped. There were quite a number of abnormalities found namely:
1.) One engine mount not bolted down AT ALL
2.) Engine mount on the firewall completely loose
3.) All bolts on the exhaust manifold have rusted to pieces and three have broken off in the head.
4.) There was only two bolts holding the gearbox on.

I am really concerned about what I am going to find in the engine.

I'm so glad i didn't buy that car... then again, the two i did buy weren't a whole ot better. Lesson of the day, its worth paying (a lot) more for a car thats been looked after and serviced unless you really like working on mr2s (yeah, right!)

Those signs suggest its been out before and not installed properly. I'd be concerned about what lies ahead.

Haa Haa, but yes I am starting to believe what you say is true, however my daughter has just bought a glimited also 90 model and it is perfect. The car belonged to one of my colleagues. She picked it up for about $1500

Of this I am certain Jim,

The car was not smoking but I am sure with all the problems I have encountered there are going to be a few expenses like new studs and bolts and those types of things.

I am also a bit concerned with the condition of the turbo as the hot side is completely rusted shut. It might be easier or simpler just to buy a new turbo.

I am also just a bit surprised that the car actually made it through a wof as such.

A wof is really a once over lightly inspection, there is tons of dodgy work that goes thru testing stations everyday, but if its not an item listed on the inspection check sheet 90% of it wont get noticed.

That is really scary is it not? Surely an engine mount should be something that you would check.

Its up to the owner to ensure that the car is up to spec, at all times. they should abolish WOFs and do random roadside inspections like in Oz. To many people think haveing a current WOF means your car is okay, even if the wof was done 9 months and 30,000kms ago.
