I think it looks very cool and is a good safety function over our older lamps.
At first I saw things like these in articles like Speedhunters and it has slowly grown on me. May purchase old tail lights to practice on.

You can already buy Led lamps to replace your tail light bulbs or consider using strips. A single Led will not be bright enough. also remember that LEDs run far hotter than normal bulbs so if you use high intensity you will need a heat sink.
Have a google at Led stuff ltd in Hamilton or Surplustronics in Auckland they have good reasonably priced stuff.
