This is why you should almost always use the Toyota OEM TOB (Throw Out Bearing) when installing a new clutch either OEM or aftermarket.
Toyota's design and build quality is far superior.

Exactly correct. Can't understand why even expensive clutch kits have crap TOB. Can't blame China for that as even some of those are made in the good ol USA.

It's all about the mighty dollar. There might be $40 more margin per clutch unit by throwing in (no pun intended) the China China bearing despite you shelling out near $1k on a clutch.

Many aftermarket clutches don't have the same lifespan as OEM. Cheap TOB will probably outlast clutch itself.

I've always know them as a "thrower bearing" but those Chinese ones are throw-out alright!
The Toyota one looks a lot more like the old Holden ones from my HR... Built.

It has a few names. I'd call it the release bearing like you did but America calls it otherwise.

It is worth noting that release bearings can wear out prematurely, depending on the strength of the spines on the pressure plate.
I've seen OEM bearings shit out after 15000kms on a far heavier than stock pressure plate.
Its worth remembering this point when selecting your clutch setup.

I'm pretty sure the bearing for my clutch didn't look that bad, there was definitely no plastic on it and it was about the same weight as the factory bearing (it's pushing a 30% stiffer than factory clutch cover). So once it's done 15000kms I'll tell you if it survived (it's already done a few motorsport events and several 2-step launches).
