Re: Tires / tyres
Thanks GDII, will stick with some decent road focused tyres, no track days really planned at this stage.
So for fitting 17x8 17x9 rims I have found the following seem common
Front
215/40/17
Rear
245/40/17
245/35/17
235/40/17
245/40 seems limited in choices, so thinking 245/35 or 235/40, in theory (if my understanding right) the 235 would have the larger sidewall, but would this still be the case as I am assuming it would be stretched a bit to fit a 9" rim?
Ideally I want the best option that wont rub if I can avoid it.

Re: Tires / tyres
A typical setup to stick with the OEM rolling diameter is 215/40R17 and 235/40R17. They do stretch a bit on 8/9" setup but still work fine. Wheels should be +35 or bigger to fit without rub.thorns wrote:Thanks GDII, will stick with some decent road focused tyres, no track days really planned at this stage.

I run 245/40R17 rear on a 17x9+29 and just folded up the lip to 45° to prevent rub. Ideally I would have got 235/40 but prices for the RE003 at the time meant I went that way for now.
I probably wouldn't go for 245/35 as that is a bit small but can't hurt. 245/40 makes the car a bit slower but revs lower at cruising speed. Puts the speedo out by 4kph just so you are aware so no speeding tickets.

Thanks heaps! Exactly the details I was after.
Now I just need to decide on wheels

Re: Tires / tyres
Any feedback or comparison on these below, have gone through and got quotes and trying to take advantage of the buy 1 get one half price etc.
Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 - $805.47
Falken FK452 - $961.96
Toyo T1R - $995.97
Bridgestone RE003 - $1076
Goodyear Eagle Assym 2 - $1067.97
So I guess really, anyone got anything bad to say about the Eagle F1 directional? Best price out of the available options.
All size 215/40/17 front, and 235/40 or 245/40 rears.

Re: Tires / tyres
I've run the Eagle F1's on my front and with the Assymeticals in the rear. they are decent enough but I would lean toward the Toyo's or Brigstones. One tyre which I think is very underrated the Nueton's. I've had some on my GT and very impressed with the grip.

The RE003s were my pick going into it, but cant find any deals on them which is a shame.
The Nuetons are interesting, sizing seems the biggest problem I can see with them

Re: Tires / tyres
Just wait for the deals at Bridgestone then either buy there or go to Tonys Tyres and ask for $10 off per tyre. I got mine for $850 a set 2 years ago.thorns wrote:The RE003s were my pick going into it, but cant find any deals on them which is a shame.

Wow, we agree on something GDII has a good point here. I'm going to do the same thing myselfGDII wrote:Just wait for the deals at Bridgestone then either buy there or go to Tonys Tyres and ask for $10 off per tyre. Re: Tires / tyres
Bridgestone often do "buy 3 get one free" I think I've seen that advertised twice this year already? You may not have to wait too long...

Re: Tires / tyres
I haven't seen any deals on RE003s for a long time now. I'm waiting for them to return so I can swap out the China specials on my FX-GT with some RE003s.
I really rate the RE003s. Toyo T1Rs are ok, I think people only ran them because they were the best road tyre in stock 15" MR2 sizes.
I had F1 Directional 5s on my RX-8. They were pretty good as well.

Bridgestone own Tonys....
Only downside is they don't come in 235/40 so the 245/40 makes the 3SGE powered cars a bit slower. I need some 235/40 for the rear next time I need tyres. 2 years out of my RE003 and I daily it for all of this year and still drove it a fair amount the year before. I have plenty of tread left but need to start looking around for some tyres to suit.

RE003 on special at my local store at the moment.
Has anyone tried RE050?
