For anyone looking for RE003's, its buy one get one half price until 24th December

That's a good deal. What does a set equate to for this price?

Based on my quote from last week prices fitted and balanced were:
215/40 R17 $263 per tyre
245/40 R17 $275 per tyre

If those prices are the same, around $806 for a set using the buy one/half price deal.

Dropped my rims off for the tyres, RE003's all rounds came in at $948 fitted/balanced.
So while its buy one get one half price, it seems it based of full RRP price, still a saving, but not the $800 deal I was hoping for.

Stupid question time.
Picked up the tryres and wheels on my way home tonight. Bit confused with the tread pattern, when they are mounted up it will be a different orientation on each side. I'm guessing this is normal, but seem strange? Both tyres are mounted with the correct side facing out, just the pattern seems to be in the wrong direction when fitted to the car?

Pic of left and right front wheels, rears are the same. Im guessing its corerct, just first time i have come across this as previously have run directional when buying performance tyres.

If they're RE003 then they're assymetrical but not directional IIRC. If they're directional then it'll say on the outside sidewall which way to run the tyres.

Yeah they make 1 tyre with one tread pattern. To me it seems odd but it obviously works well enough having an outside and inside of the tyre but the tread pattern facing opposite ways for outside if the tyre only.

Like Mike said. There are a few tyre types.
Economy tyres that seem mirrored down the centre of the tyre and can be fit to the wheel any way and not be an issue.
Asymmetrical like the RE003
Symmetrical like the Toyo T1R

Thanks, yes they are Re003 so assymetrical, and from reading up it seems it is correct.
Just caught me off guard a bit.

Now to get them on the car and some nice weather to break them in.

Very odd on how the tread pattern looks on the RE003's. I should look at my Goodyear F1 asyemtrical's to see if its similar.

One of these years I'd like to try the RE003 on the rear. Due to weight distribution MR2's seem to wear the back end out must faster than front.

Yeah if you look they will be the same tyre with the tread facing opposite directions.
Better get in quick before the RE003 gets replaced. My rears are wearing out quite a bit faster than the fronts but still plenty of tread left after 2 years. Not sure how many KMs I have done though but there was one track day in there.

Just got a quote for a set of 205/45R16 RE003s for my FX-GT. $822 fitted and balanced. Quite steep for 16s, even with the buy three, get one free deal. I can buy a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3s for that for the same price. T1Rs are only $600 fitted and balanced. Decisions!

16s are are rare beast. That's why they can be costly.

I've used Michelin, Toyo and Potenza for years, and pushed them all until they melt (driving on twisty back roads). All good choices of rubber.

Without doubt my all-time favourite was the Potenza RE-11 but I don't think they make them anymore. Those things were truly immense for grip and cornering. I soooooo wish they would start making them again.

We've been running RE003 on most of our cars ever since they came out. Good tyres, wet or dry, street or track. The harder you push them the more they like it. And yes the asymmetrical thing had me scratching my head at first too but they do work.

The "Outside" marking is because the sidewalls are different (inside vs outside) for the sake of cornering stability.

One other thing guys: be very careful if you decide to run a different make or type of tyre on the back vs the front. If one has a stiffer sidewall than the other you can find yourself with a car that feels extremely unstable through the corners! Especially if the ones with a softer sidewall end up on the back. So it's a good idea to run all Potenzas, or all Toyos, for example.
