I'll still probably grab the wheels because as Al said, just replace the front tyres.

The 245/45/R17 shouldn't rub I don't think, I have rolled guards both front and rear.

I'll probably put some 215, 225, or 235 with 40 profile on the fronts dependent on what I can find at a good price.

Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it. Just gotta sus them for Toyotafest now haha.

Yokohama AD08s are back in stock in 185/60R14 for AW owners. Picked some up for the FX-GTV. Very impressed with dry grip. They will cost you $1000 a set though.

Would that size work okay on a 6.5" rim as well? Believe standard AW11 rim is 6" wide?

Yes, just legal.

OK here's one for ya. And I never thought I'd say this but that just shows how blown away I am.

Linglong Greenmax HP 010

Dry grip: AWesome.
Wet grip: AWesome.

My impression thus far: Potenza performance at half the price.

Threw some 185/55-14 onto pre-facelift AW rims on my youngest son's Starlet inflated to 30psi like with an AW and I can run through a twisty back-road as fast as in a Potenza'd AW, and stomp on the brakes as hard as I like in the wet and simply stop in neck-breaking fashion. Nuts.

Seriously these things are utterly astonishing and frankly I'd rate them as good as Potenzas if not perhaps even better especially in the wet.

For AW owners wanting to run OEM rims use them in 185/55-14
https://www.hyperdrive.co.nz/product/10 ... ted=251253

In this size these tyres are rated H which means they are ok to 210 kmh so on an AW with 185kmh speed cut they'd be sweet.

One thing I've not done as yet is try them on a track. I suspect they may start to melt if pushed hard on track in the dry but then so do Potenzas and it never hurts them, they still work fine while melting and also afterwards.

If your AW has 15" rims, these tyres are also made in 195/50-15 rated V which is ok to 240kmh so they'd be brilliant on road and likely also on track if they don't melt too much. You'd need to order them in and wait a few months for them to arrive as they don't tend to bring this size in. But I'd imagine you'd be as surprised as me when you try them out.

On a similar note it's been getting increasingly hard to find tyres for an SW, so here's a thought if you have 15" rims.
A set of these GreenMax HP 010 in 205/55-15 rear and 195/55-15 front may work a treat. As I say these things are amazingly sticky even in the wet so fitting them at a width like the SW originally used on 14" rims but on 15" rims may turn out to be SWeet as. Again you'd need to order them in though and wait for them to turn up.

One thing: I've had a horrible experience with the Linglong Crosswind. Managed to light them up in a V8 ute on the motorway at 100kmh trying to pass someone and found myself drifting it.. But the GreenMax HP 010 have really blown me away with their grip, both wet and dry. I would happily run them on an MR2, no question.

Like you have found some off brand tyres do perform as good if not better than spec ones. I’ve had a good run with Nuetron Sports which are approx $125 for a 235/45/17. I’ve looked at the Greenmax before but yet to give them a try.

I will say that the age of tyre is a very important factor as Paul Walker would agree with if he was still alive. My personal preference is to replace tyres every 4 years even if it’s with a no name brand.

Good info! Particularly helpful with the struggle it is to find normal brand name tyres in some of the older sizes.

Boto Genysys

F in wet conditions

Even in slightly wet conditions, will struggle to grip in 1st gear when accelerating from an intersection in a 100km/h zone. Stopping distance x10 in wet.

For anyone running a 17 inch 215/245 setup on their SW20 and looking for tyre options other than the usual RE003s, Michelin have started producing their pilot sport 4 tyres in the 215/40r17 size which they previously didn't. So if you're willing to spend money on great performing, quality tyres 215/40, 245/40, Michelin is now an option 🤙

Can we expect anything significant from these tires?

When looking for a high performance road tyre these PS4 tyres are better in most ways that count when compared to RE003s
In terms of straight line grip, the PS4s beat the RE003s in dry and wet conditions every time, which means less loss of traction when launching and accelerating, as well as improved braking distances and deceleration rates.
In terms of lateral grip, the RE003s only slightly beat out the PS4s in the dry but in the wet PS4s do the better job.
The PS4s also have a slightly better hydroplane resistance than the RE003s
The PS4s also have better treadwear due to their better build quality, with a 320 treadwear rating versus the RE003s 220
Both tyres have very similar road noise levels and fuel efficiency, but the PS4s are marginally quieter and the RE003s are slightly more fuel efficient with their lower rolling resistance
The price point of these tyres are similar, but the PS4s are very slightly more expensive

https://comparethetire.com/michelin-pil ... lin-re003/

TLDR:
PS4 vs RE003
Best straight grip wet and dry - PS4
Best lateral grip dry - RE003
Best lateral grip wet - PS4
Best hydroplane resistance - PS4
Best treadwear - PS4 (320 vs 220)
Least road noise - PS4
Lowest rolling resistance -RE003
Lowest price - RE003

Good info Logan. I had Michelin on the 86 initially and they were very good especially in the wet. Would squeal in the dry if pushed in the corners though which indicates loss of grip due to tread blocks moving (breaking away from the road). Personally I don't think the RE003 are quite as good as their predecessors, not when cold anyway, especially in the wet. They need to be warmed up to work.

The one thing about Potenza RE003 though is they grip better and better the harder you push them. You can push them until they are melting and they will simply grip better. And after they cool down they will still work just as well as ever, they don't seem to degrade.

That said, I wish they would bring back the Potenza RE11 those were the best tyres I've ever had. Super sticky semis that were insanely good wet or dry, hot or cold. Noisy, sounded like sticky tape being ripped up, and they threw stones at the guards non stop. But who cares if it's grip you're after?

Hey all, having trouble finding tires that work for me so thought I'd make a post instead of lurking.

Wanting to fit stock z32 16x7.5 wheels and the ideal tire sizes are 205/45/16 and 225/45/16 (or so I've seen from overseas forums).

I'm looking for something good in the wet/all season as my car is really a daily driver (judge me all you want), and im not looking at breaking the bank. Fronts aren't too hard to get, fair few options out there and theres not much give in the way of what I can even fit but if you have suggestions feel free to drop a post. But everything available in the rear size is either a semi slick or goddam linglongs. So to sum up my question;

Can I go up to 225/50/16 to open up new options? (91 sw20)
Where can I find a tyre shop willing to order in suitable sets at a fair price, since time isn't an issue for me?

bonus question;
why are nankangs so shit? I've been running these for almost half a year now and have had enough of how poor they perform in the wet, and they only just cut it in dry (TS611 fitted to stock 14")

cheers all

You can get a matching set of Bridgestone RE003s in 205/45 and 225/50. Had RE003s on my Blade Master G and they tamed the understeer and wheel spin from the big 2GR up front.

You can get Yokohama AD08's in the 205/45 and 225/45. These are super sticky to the point of picking up little stones everywhere, they are insane in the dry. Had them on my FXGTV

You won't be saving much money if thats why you are going for Z32 rims though because 16" tyres are $$$$. Those Ad08s will be $1400+ a set. The Bridgestones will be $1300+

So 225/50/16 will fit in the back? The re003s sound tempting then. I don't mine spending overbudget, if it means not settling for linglongs. I almost knew I would and I've already accounted for it, just need to know if that size will fit. Reason going for z32 wheels is an increase in size while keeping it look somewhat stock. Just like the style.
