Club members can start topics here requesting help with their cars if mechanical or other assistance is required. It's recommended to keep your address details private and simply PM them to those wishing to attend. Any forum users may post in this section but only club members can start a topic. http://mr2.org.nz/membership
Remember that obtaining assistance from other MR2 folk is a bonus, not a right. So please reciprocate by offering your time / parts / money / a BBQ and beers if folk help you out. And please don't volunteer someone else's time - volunteer your own. Cheers!
Benckj wrote:I'm gong to use a mirror to look at my NA over the weekend. If the hoses are there I'll be ordering some myself. No aftermarket option here but the dealership prices are reasonable (ie $20-35/each). They also come with those nice spring clips with metal holders to keep depressed. Good idea to keep these in case of other spring clip work (hint-hint).
I cant speak for Gen3, but of all the Gen 2 3sge's I've worked on they either have no water bypass under the oil filter or a system that looks like this:
. It usually has a cover on it held on by 2 nuts at the top and a bolt into the block on the bottom. I don't recall ever seeing the HFH or HFHOE on an NA. Ive also never heard of these splitting on an NA, the hose usually rots out at the back of the water pump first(IF the car has not had coolant in it for a very long time). Probably doesn't get as hot down there on the NA compared to turbo.
Gen3 na deff has an oil heater/cooler looks pretty much the same as I remember a gen3 turbo. I've just spent 2 hours pulling a gearbox out of a gen3 na celica, I might even go back and grab that oil cooler tomorrow.

Gen2 pic above so Kylie doesn't have to worry about replacement unless hoses are shagged. Checked my gen3 NA and while it had a similar hose to the turbo it's behind a large heat shield which protects it from exhaust. There isn't any insulation around hose like HFH so doubt if it is a problem.

That's what I meant - about the spark plugs. Do I have to get plugs from Toyota or will the BNT ones work fine?
BNT ones will work fine,
stock plugs are iridium but if your at bnt you can get the copper plug equivalent which are a lot cheaper but should be changed every 20k instead of 60-80k

Thank you!
All this talk of these hoses is doing my head in... thoroughly confused now... guess I better go uncover the engine and have a good look at it. My current (old) engine has been run with coolant (by me {can't speak for previous owner}) and my new (secondhand) one will be run with coolant too. It's just stupid not to.
Anyway... I've got a quote for all other parts, but some may not be necessary. Love my BNT!

Sorry I've been really slack keeping this updated. I've been very busy with "breeding season" - I breed birds - so they're keeping me pretty busy (out of trouble)
Anyway, I'm about to send out a bulk message with my address and other details for the spanner day, but I'd like a list of people who are actually going to attend put here so I can.
Thanks.
