I've been going at it alone so far. F***ing previous C*** managed to round a bolt head so that's going to be fun. Got all the bits and most of the way getting stuff off so I very well might make it to the run

Sorry to hear nobody's turned up to help Mike. I'm somewhat bogged down with my own issues here, sorry...
Rounded bolts: you can get wee spanner things that self-tighten - brilliant for that problem, as long as you have space to get a wee spanner gizmo on there.
They work a bit like a cam or cleat, kinda thing, with a toothed jaw that swivels on a hinge pin.

It's alright, I have the BGB and your advice which should be enough. I was thinking of trying the sockets with the weird spiral

A socket that does a similar thing? Cool...! Biff up a pic sometime if you can? Sounds like a great addition to the toolbox.mknz wrote:It's alright, I have the BGB and your advice which should be enough. I was thinking of trying the sockets with the weird spiral
Right... off outside to carry on with the broken 2's at my place...
Have a good productive day Mike!

Bolt extracting set got nowhere, is it alright if I try your tool mikeyduck? If anyone else has a idea or tool that might work, mind posting? Thoughts on cutting off the head, this is the bolt that goes from the triangle into the engine mounting bracket. Is the triangle even needed?

Sometimes a six point rather than the more common 12 point socket will do the job for you.

I tried the six point bolt extractor and a socket that pushes on the wall rather than corners. This thing is on super tight, using a 750mm breaker bar, lubricant soak over almost a week, centre punch, hairdryer, elbow grease and two people is the point at which the special socket stops gripping and starts slipping.85AW20v wrote:Sometimes a six point rather than the more common 12 point socket will do the job for you.

I'm going to dremel it, F*** it. It looks like the previous twat used the wrong born because the head is so shallow there is little contact area. I'm so F***ed off with it. Spent too much on tools to get it out and none of them made a difference so going to take as much back as possible

That bolt with the low profile head is factory. I thought it was odd to have a bolt like that anywhere on the car but that's what my car has too.

Are you referring to the rubber triangle dampner on top of rear chassis member? If so, its not needed and can be eliminated.Thoughts on cutting off the head, this is the bolt that goes from the triangle into the engine mounting bracket. Is the triangle even needed?

I think he is talking about the small triangle bracket on top of the right hand engine mount that links the top of the aluminium mount and the main bracket bolted to the front of the block.

The f***er is nearly dead, the head on close inspection is/was useless. When the dremel is charged again I'll finish it off.

Re: Spanner spinning weekend (4-5/07/15 aka this weekend)
Both guides and BGB state I need to apply a moment on the idler pulley 1 to remove the slack in the belt and move it out of the way so that the tensioner can fit in. However this just starts rotating the bolt and not the pulley bracket. Suggestions?
