Post by pommy »

Ive been talking about it, for to long!

I am finally going to get my turbo rebuilt... no more worrying about dripping oil from pipes :D

Out of interest whats the easiest way to remove the coolant line from the turbo without "re burrping the system" will keep you posted cheers.

Re-burping the system isn't hard. Just run the car from cold with the cap off until no more bubbles come out and it should remove most of the air from the engine area. Bleeding the air from the heater and radiator would be a good safety measure as you never know where air could have gone with the system being open at the turbo pipes. Should take less than 30mins. Just follow the BGB method.

Plastic bags and rubber bands. You will be forced to bleed the system, the quickest method I have found after doing it too many times is;
  • jacking up the rear
bleeder hose on radiator and heater
stick a funnel in and fill it with coolant
    start it
let it warm up to temp
slowly rev between 2-3K for a couple of minutes
ten quick jabs on the throttle
    turn it off
let it cool down for half an hour
Make sure the funnel always has coolant in it
Premix the concentrate with the water before so you're ready to go
You can look through the rear window at the tacho, use the throttle body and keep the funnel topped up at the same time

If you want a hand I have all the tools needed

On an AW, a piece of heater hose taped into the top of a cut off 1.5L coke bottle fits into the filler neck just right. Can't remember if it's 1/2" or 5/8" hose. Coolant into the bottle also acts as a bit of a header tank to help push out the air bubbles too and no leaks around the hose.

See ya
Simon
